Some people may ask, “Do we really need another AIP cookbook?” OMG – Yes, please! I can’t tell you how many depressing moments I’ve had flipping through paleo cookbooks and finding that 90% percent of the recipes contain ingredients I can’t eat. There are only three hardcopy AIP cookbooks currently available, all unique, and I’m so grateful for each and every one of them.
What makes this one special? Angie is known for speaking honestly about the emotional journey of autoimmunity, so this is more than just a cookbook. Yes, it has recipes, but it also has chapters addressing things like denial and anger. Angie is also flat-out funny. Any book that has a “Butt Manifesto” gets my seal of approval! I would say this book is part cookbook, part memoir, and part health coaching advice.
Let’s Talk Recipes: There are 59 total: you’ll find 28 for the elimination phase and 31 for the reintroduction phases. This book is designed to show you what life long-term on the AIP looks like. Strict AIP isn’t meant to last forever, and the recipes in the reintroduction phases include ingredients Angie herself has been able to add back into her diet: fruit-based spices, seed-based spices, fresh legumes, butter, almonds, alcohol, chocolate, coffee and white rice. The recipes are very clearly marked with a reintroduction box where it applies, with modifications for people still in the elimination phase. And some paleo ingredients are never included. This book is 100% egg-free, 100% nightshade-free, and butter is the only dairy ingredient (and used in only 4 recipes).
This is a gorgeous book in every way, and is destined to help a lot of people.
We do, however, have several friends and family members that suffer with Celiac's. Since we have been so impressed with the recipes we have purchased four additional books for them.
Sure, the recipes are really good but, trust me, you will thoroughly enjoy the photography, the unique ingredients and most of all the little personal notes that accompany each recipe! To paraphrase a popular commercial .... "Buy it, you'll like it".
Being a foodie myself, I have to admit that I was very interested in the quality, variety, and innovation of Angie's recipes; and I have to say she delivered! From meaty mains, soups, sides, to desserts, and drinks, each page of this colorful cookbook is a culinary treasure trove. Every recipe has clear and easy to follow instructions, as well as gorgeous pictures popping out of the page.
