I have floating wood shelves in my kitchen. The back edge of the shelves are secured against the wall. However, my contractor was worried about the sides being supported since the planks are quite heavy.He initially suggested that we use short metal plates but I thought those would look terrible. So I bought these and he cut them down and attached them.Love that these come in different thicknesses and lengthsVery easy to drill in
