Power on, lights come on. Not USB connected.
Press START - nothing happens
I can read both drives in the dock with USB cord. OK, remove USB cord.
I tried 2 more identical Seagate Barracuda 500Gb drives not connected to computer.
I posted a request for help diagnosing what I can do to fix this.
4 days later I was asked what the SHAPE of my device was.
I described the shape, and again supplied the serial number AND included a link to the product page of the Aluratek web site. I have to assume there is more than one shape, but how am I supposed to know? He doesn't give me any descriptions to choose from, which means "figure it out your self".
Feb 5th he writes back: "Just to confirm, how long did you leave the drives in the duplicator when attempting to copy?"
I write back:
"Hours! I'm looking for diagnostic help like - You should see an LED response in less than 5 minutes. Please respond with help. A week isn't the promised 24 hours.
It's been 12 'working' days since I asked for help.
Feb 6th, 2013 I prowl Amazon and can't find the model I bought but, there's a different "clam shell" unit WITH THE SAME MODEL NUMBER. Deeper in the Amazon description is a model number AHDDUB100F, but searching that on this site comes up with no result. The Aluratek web site shows a toaster shape that was what I was shown when I bought from Amazon.
A Google image search turns up both "shapes".
It's Feb 7, 2013 Almost a month with no help.
I'm interested in suggestions of duplicators that did work. I've got lots of Win 7/Win 8 upgrades to complete.
The Aluratek duplicator was purchased as a last effort to try and save my data. It did just that made a perfect copy of the dead 1TB hard drive onto my new 3TB hard drive and it was still a bootable drive.
What ever people say bad about this will not cover up the fact that this is a Data saving tool. The Duplicator did what it said it would do and copyed my old dead drive to a new drive that I could boot on my PC.
I was able to make a bit by bit close of my failing drive and not
miss a beat. Works independently of the computer so no OS
is needed. Also is switchable to use as a regular usb drive .
the more info on Hard Drive the longer it takes to copy - I set it and forget it before sleeping, all done when I wake.
By the way - when they say external hard drive duplicator - they mean the Duplicator is external which is obvious - you can remove and copy internal hard drives. I say this because it seems to mention external in product title at all is redundant except for search category.
