A Miraculous Journey

THIS BOOK IS A DELIGHT. Hugh Ross was being interviewed on Christian radio. I thought the interview so interesting that I decided to order his book. That was the first I’d heard of him and his RTB ministry. Wow. He shared his unusual journey to faith, that he found all on his own. He was without any knowledge of Christian faith until he read a bible he had got as a youth from the Gideon organization, from a box of bibles they had left for whoever wanted them in his classroom. He was eighteen, an avid scientist with atheistic parents and was on a search to find what could explain the complexity of the natural world. He saw holes and incomplete explanations for what he was studying. He was certain there had to be a credible reasoning behind it. He found that in Genesis 1. It read like a scientific process. In a short matter of time he made a profession of faith and wrote it in the bible’s decision page. However, he didn’t know any Christians until six years later. Now, decades later, he is on a mission to help Christians become prepared to share their faith with a world that is hostile but curious. He wants people to know that science and Christianity compliment each other and are not in opposition to each other. He is a pastor, debater, sharer of his faith, writer, and advocate for the Christ of the gospels. He is also autistic. I find this thread quite interesting. His autism has not kept him from sharing his brilliance. If anything, it has enhanced it. A good read.

Adventures With Hugh

This is not a typical Hugh Ross book, giving scientific evidence that the Bible is true. It’s more of an autobiographical approach to call us to engage others in dialog that will lead them to a relationship with the Creator of the universe, Jesus Christ.

He starts with how God moved his family from Montreal to Vancouver after his father’s business partner took off with the company’s money. From there we learn how God prepared Hugh for his life’s mission as an evangelist.

His encounters with searchers are almost unbelievable. There’s the physicist who happened to sit next to Hugh in first class when neither of them ever flew first class. The Uber driver story is in this book. Many other stories will have you on the edge of your seat!

Read it and enjoy getting to know the man who is surely the world’s foremost evangelist to scientists and science-minded people. Written with his wife, Kathy, this is a readable and entertaining book.

This evangelism is made attractive to unbelievers because it first demonstrates a viable knowledge of both scripture and the hard facts of science plus it confidently and lovingly presents the gospel. All persons are valued as a child of God even if their anti-God opinions may not be worthy of respect. Always Be Ready is virtually a handbook of how to do door to door evangelism, home groups, and the marketing of topics for exposing unbelievers to Bible truths.

Ross keenly shows the coincidental Providences of God provided to Christian witnesses to save the lost. There are dozens of examples of coincidental run-ins for Ross to powerfully witness to highly educated unbelievers. He encourages all witnesses to look for these opportunities.

This is a hard book to put down, because it is true and it does demonstrate an attractive Christian life that is exciting and fruitful.

I liked this book a lot but not nearly as much as Matter of Days or Fingerprint of God by Hugh Ross. However it is still a good book for people like myself who want to know more about Hugh Ross's journey from atheist family, astrophysicist and pastor. If you want to read only one Hugh Ross book to answer questions about how science helped to support the book of Genesis, I would recommend A Matter of Days instead.
