I loved getting to see some of our favorite characters from past books and meeting new ones. I loved Kellin. The name alone makes me love him and he pretty much put my other fictional book boyfriend Kellan Kyle to shame... he gave him a run for his money and he did NOT disappoint. Roh, oh Roh.... he kept me laughing the entire time and I seriously am in love with him. And Sadie, I truly hope we get their story next! and Misty I loved. She was adorable and such a wonderful character. I love a second chance at love kind of book and this was everything I expected and so much more. It made you laugh, happy, sad, it was truly raw and beautiful. The writing was impeccable and flawless. And the plot alone is very intriguing and that alone captures your attention and does not let go until the very last page. I had to actually slow down, I didn't want to finish and then I couldn't help myself. Sigh. I will be re-reading this by the end of the week. The scenes were amazing and touching. Her saving milk for him, the nerf wars, it was just simply a beautiful phenomenon.
The book starts off and Luke is asking Misty to marry him. He gives her one summer to make sure he is what she wants and to settle any unresolved feelings. And Misty knows in order to move on she needs to take that chance and get over Kellin Patel. Kellin is going through a tough time and recently breaks up with his cheating girlfriend and Misty shows up and they decide to take a camping trip with their friends Sadie and Roh. The entire encounter is amazing and hilarious. The two are getting to the bottom of things that happened in the past and trying to be friends. But circumstances are against them and the pull is strong. The two start to fall all over again so Kellin makes Misty another proposition. To stay the remainder of the summer with him. And she does, but soon things start to go wrong. Can they finally have a chance at happiness or will unforeseen events and circumstances keep them apart yet again? you will have to read to find out.
"You run, I run with you."
"And she's your ex. I whacked it- past tense- to fantasies of your now ex girlfriend."
"I lied about the toilet seat thing, so it's okay. We're pretty s***** roommates too."
"You said you fell in love with her again. Love doesn't work that way. It doesn't run out and need refilling. It's like a well. You draw from it. But the supply is endless."
"My four-leaf-clover?""Hard to find, once in a lifetime, once you have it you hold onto it, etcetera."
"We all get old, fat, and wrinkly- if we're lucky enough to live that long. And then someday, we all die. I want to get old, fat, and wrinkly with you- my best friend."
This second chance love story is Misty and Kellin's journey. Both had an attraction to each other at an early age but were separated when they were preteens. They kept in touch at times and had made some unfortunate decisions that kept them apart. But now, they are a bit older and when the opportunity to go camping together for two weeks comes about, both Misty and Kellin decide to go all in and see what happens.
Misty has been asked by her longtime boyfriend to get married and when she doesn't say yes, he being a bit older, tells her to take the summer to "sow any wild oats" and then come back to him in the fall so they can set the date. But when the camping trip with Kellin (the one true love of her life that she can't forget) comes up, will she be able to stay away from him? Will they be able to talk things through once and for all? Or will they just realize it's all just too late and their time has passed.
I thoroughly enjoy these Sometimes Never characters. Each one, so fiercely independent, yet reduced to a puddle of mush when the love they hold so near in dear in their hearts is anywhere nearby. Kellin and Misty are no different. Old arguments, misunderstandings and missed opportunities, still fresh in their minds, seem to float away whenever they are in close proximity. With the help of Sadie and Roh, two of the best secondary characters the author has ever written, our couple finally come to grips with how they are both connected and how neither of them truly wants to let go. They are meant to be but their road to happiness can be a bumpy one at times and it is a ride that was completely worth all of it!
This is yet again another well written book in this series. Although it didn't have enough angst for my liking, it was overall a really great read and one I would highly recommend. The author continues to create characters that are both relatable and endearing. I can only hope that Sadie and Roh get their story told next since they kept me laughing and joyful throughout.
A very solid 4 stars!!
