Luke and Misty are together. Luke proposed to Misty but she had reservations about it so Luke gave her the summer to sow her wild oats. Those oats come in the form of Kellin. Kellin is the past that got away because the timing was not right.
The timeline is a bit confusing to keep track of. Chapter eight was a past reference from when Misty and Kellin met for the first time yet it was not labeled.
"Misty and I have a history. An off and on again relationship that spans eight years." Quote from Kellin. Over the summer they go camping reminiscing the past and filling in the blanks of the time apart. A trip down memory lane was sweet but not a favorite of mine to read. I had hoped for more to happen.
"I have to make a decision. Either I man up, let her go and try to be happy for her. Or I go balls to the wall and start fighting with everything God gave me."Quote from Kellin. With this statement I had hoped once again the story would progress but it stayed idle.
The pace of the story was slow. The timelines were an issue. The story spent more time denying themselves each other that when they finally allow themselves the time together they end up wasting it with past references.
It read more like a trip down memory lane and then with the time restraint added it felt rushed.
I did not love it nor did I hate it. It was fine for a free story.
Once I finished it, I literally bawled which, believe it or not, says more about the story, the characters, the depth, the angst, the love, than it does about me right now. I love Cheryl's series Dirty so much, but a girl can love different styles. Where Dirty was gritty and raw, unapologetic in its ugly, passionate reality, in Always Forever, Cheryl is back to her New Adult roots. SPOILER: There IS no better HEA than this. There is no better love—Mr. Dee, do you love me this deep? Please tell me you do! :))
And at the tail end of it, when I was actually a bit grieving with the loss of the novel almost being over, she threw me a bone: a promise for another story I'm absolutely giddy about. #stopsrambling
Sometimes Never is one of my favorite series ever. I absolutely love Cheryl's storytelling about these young adults and the triumphs and tribulations they go through in their lives. Cheryl can tell a story that will absolutely crush your soul and then slowly mend it back together page by page.
I have been waiting for Kellin Patel's story since we read about his brother Mason's story. Of course we has to fast forward a few years, because Kellin was far younger in Mason's book.
Now Kellin is a grow man and has crossed paths with Misty.... again.
When Kellin and Misty first met they were 12 and 13. Young love, first loves. And then Kellin broke Misty's heart. She was a mess and always cared for Kellin. Misty also happens to be Hope's foster sister. I guess this doesn't help matters, because they had to see each other over the years, since Hope and Mason are a couple.
Now Misty is on the verge of accepting her boyfriend's marriage proposal, but there is something that is holding her back. Her boyfriend suggests that she take some time to think it over. Misty hears that Kellin is going camping in a summer long road trip with his friend. She takes this opportunity to go along with her friend.
The friendship between Kellin and Misty is rekindled. But the more time they spend together, the more they become like a couple. There is feelings there that run so deep, neither is willing to admit it. You know these two belong together, hell, the universe knows it as well. That is why they ended up back in each other's paths when it came down to it.
This was a great continuation of the series. I am so glad Cheryl kept it going!!
