He’s my eighteen-year-old son’s best friend, and I’m old enough to know better.
My marriage is falling apart, and Vander’s home life is tragic.
Yet, his broken parts speak to mine, and amid all the chaos, a true connection is formed.
The only peace I find is in those stolen moments when we share our darkest secrets and our deepest desires.
This thing between us has disaster written all over it.
But I’m powerless to resist the magnetic pull that draws us closer and closer.
Until lines are crossed, boundaries are broken, and everything I thought I knew about myself is undone.
This reverse age-gap romance contains mature scenes, dark themes, and situations that may push your boundaries. This is a male/female stand-alone romance that ends with an HEA and NO cliff-hanger.

From the Inside Flap
KENDALL
I chew on the inside of my mouth as I start walking again. "What happened Saturday night proves us hanging out is risky."
"But you were enjoying yourself, right?" He takes my elbow, forcing me to stop. "I didn't just imagine it. We had a good time."
Since Saturday night, I have been trying to convince myself to let him go. Believing the West incident was a sign that continuing this friendship will only end in disaster. But, for reasons even I don't understand, I can't let him go.
I should, but I can't.
"We did," I reluctantly admit. "But West almost caught us. What would you have told him if he did discover us together?"
"The truth." He tucks a stray piece of my hair back into my ponytail. "That nothing happened. I cooked you dinner, and we talked about philosophy over a glass of wine and a beer." He shoves his hand back in the pocket of his sweats. "He wouldn't have read any more into it. His brain would never go there. You're making this out to be something more than it is."
I arch a brow because come on. He knows I know he still wants more than friendship, and we have admitted our feelings are stronger than that. I honestly don't know what I'm doing or why I can't just shut this down—whatever the hell this is.
His lips twitch. "Focus on the facts, Kendall. Nothing has happened. It's innocent."
Brushing his lips against mine was hardly innocent although it stopped short of a kiss. "Let's not kid ourselves. We both know our feelings for one another are far from innocent."
He leans down, pressing his mouth up against my ear. "But we haven't acted on those feelings," he whispers, and I shiver all over. "Yet." He straightens up and flashes me a grin. "Whenever you change your mind, I'll be more than happy to act out my every fantasy with you."
My jaw slackens, and my mouth drops open. He chuckles before waggling his fingers and jogging away, leaving me dumbstruck and tingling with anticipation in the middle of the park.

I love age gap stories in general, but I particularly love when authors write the inverse of the well-trodden iteration of the trope. We don’t get it often in the romance world, the result of the forbidden merging with the latent patriarchal archetypes of romance we’ve all internalized. So I RELISH when an author breaks outside of that box, and who better than Siobhan Davis?! Siobahn is so great at defying and recreating tropes to make them her own, so I knew her take on it would be riveting, complicated, sordid and emotional, but I had now idea just how complicated this story would be. The moment I felt I had my bearings with the obstacles, we’d have a new twist to battle. This is just just about the reverse age gap but also the forbidden flair- as our heroine falls into an illicit attraction with her son’s barely legal best friend. OH THE DRAMA. THE ANGST. And yet again, that’s where Siobhan puts this story on it’s head, brilliantly so- because the only thing we COULD count on were the feelings, the emotional charge and undeniable chemistry between Vander and Kendall. Soulmates through and through- but with obstacles so abundant that their taboo felt like the least of their worries. Leave it to Siobhan to take an already juicy trope and make it even more salaciously dramatic.
Yet amidst all the drama and taboo deliciousness, there’s a sweet and tender beating heart. Two characters who discover love in the most un “conventional” places, and Siobhan gives us an emotional romance between them that unapologetically sparkles with this stories themes- that love is love, that if love is meant to be, it will find a way. While there’s a large age gap between these characters and certainly at first you’re wondering where the line is, the taboo of their age gap gradually blurs as we start to recognize their true connection. Like two close friends- one old at heart (and persistently emotionally open- how swoony!) and the other robbed of much of her love trying to reclaim and purpose that is just for her. We jump straight into serious feelings, which really works because we jump past that psychological transition straight into the romantic pull between these two- there’s no time or space to doubt it’s acceptability because Siobhan unapologetically declares that it just is.
Both characters are very likable and endearing- and , in true Siobhan fashion, we have plenty of less likable side characters ensuring disruption towards the HEA. There are many unexpected elements and twists, and one plot device that jarred me a bit because I was not expecting it. I also found a surprising amount of emotional connection just with Kendall’s struggles with her family- as someone who was part of a family structure that stayed together far beyond its expiration date in the name of stability for me and my siblings, I found this part of the narrative both really compelling, believable, and personal, and it speaks a lot to Kendall’s journey as a character- and how she finds ways to harness her altruism and selfless love of others in ways that no longer sacrifice herself entirely.
This story is quite unexpected, nothing like it seemed, but as always, I leave thoroughly entertained and emotionally fulfilled and pensive all at once. Love comes in so many forms- there is no formula, and I especially love the stories that help us see a facet not often told. Sexy, swoony, angsty, and edge of your seat suspenseful- this has all that Siobhan Davis effect!
If you roll into this book expecting or just wanting some age gap romance, you are going to miss out. There is a bigger story playing out here; I just hope you all see it and enjoy it as much as I did. These two have a powerful & passionate love that can endure anything that threatens it. There's just enough of forbidden mixed with a whole lot of adoration, passion and anguish. I'm always drawn to forbidden love stories, but the author has to do the work to keep me once I get there. Siobhan Davis has accomplished that with this endearing and enchanting romance.

Vander is more mature than an 18 year old would be partly from his dysfunctional & traumatic childhood but partly because he's an 'old soul' who has been here before. I liked that they both had dreams about past lives and each other. He does act like a typical teenager at times which again is understandable - no matter how old and romantic his soul he was in a teenage boys body with teenage hormones!
I guess my only question would be whether Kendall would really have started this relationship with the potential to harm her children, especially with her son West being Vander's best friend. She seems like a dedicated and loving mum. But she certainly deserved some fun after being married to Curtis who never gave her an orgasm for their whole relationship! It was interesting that despite being so much older Kendall is less sexually experienced and Vanders experience and confidence makes the relationship feel more equal.
Also the situation with Vander's dad and all the blackmail was probably excessive in a book that already had a lot going on, and I might have enjoyed a book that looked at the soul mates/reincarnation with the drama coming from that dynamic (and exes/children) without the additional drama from the psychotic dad!
But because this book was so different and I couldn't predict where it was going I loved reading it and it was a page turner. The end section could have been longer and more in depth. Will definitely read more books by this author!

The tropes for this book are all kinds of delicious, reverse age gap, taboo, best friends mum, blackmail, betrayal, secrets, an agonisingly but addicting slow burn and a couple who you're going to want the world for.
Vander ... go and take a rightful spot on the book boyfriend league table because you are simply divine. The tall, tattooed, troubled guy, whose home life is heartbreaking and as a result he is so riddled with anger masking the pain you can see in his mesmerising emerald eyes. But he isn't who you expect him to be. I had a preconception that he would be guarded and cruel, but that's the opposite of what Vander is. He's deep and sentimental, he's calming, attentive, ambitious, driven and so in love that nobody could ever convince him that anyone has loved another more than he loves Kendall.
Kendall is such a pure soul. Devoted mother whose nurturing nature knows no limits. She's warm and comforting and has had to endure so much pain and betrayal it's a miracle she remained so graceful. She made Vander true to himself, she let him be exactly who he is and it was so amazing to witness him thriving in all of his gentle, adoring and honest beauty.
These two are going to put you through the ringer. The obstacles and situations standing in their way are devastating and seem never ending. I tried not to doubt the process because Vander and Kendall are twin flames who have loved each other in every space of time and in so many different versions of reality that you can't deny their souls only recognise each others, because they are destined. And because of this my heart broke for all the things and moments they missed and couldn't have. But these two got the most beautiful HEA I could have ever hoped for!

"𝐈𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐛𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞.”
This book is fast becoming one of my top reads this year. The connection both physically and emotionally is utter perfection.
Kendall and Vander they shouldn't but they should situation and damn it is swoonworthy and laced in chemistry.
“𝐈𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞.” 𝐇𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞. “𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐠𝐞.”
The depth of the story grows and intensitifies throughout and the journey thickens between all the characters. Each character plays a vital role in the book.
Absolutely love the interaction at the care home and the bravery the older lady has towards Vander, Absolutely comedy gold and i LOVE IT!
The last several chapters solidify fate and true love and honestly the most perfect ending to a book with a plot twist too. This is a must read for sure.
