Editorial Reviews

Review

Maureen and Smith have sparks of chemistry all over the place. This story wrapped me all up, in, and around the characters. I had so much fun getting inside their heads, reading their inner dialogue, and seeing the struggles they each had with their feelings. I couldn't help myself, and had to literally laugh out loud throughout the book. This was both fun to read, and made me smile as my heart smiled at the sweet and tender moments. The steamy moments made me want to fan myself just a little. I absolutely loved this book, and couldn't put it down from the moment I started it. #AlwaysLove #BackToBurton

This was my first time reading a book by this author, and I have to say that I really enjoyed it, so much so, I plan to revisit the series and read future installments. The story line pulled me almost immediately and had me staying up well past my bedtime just to finish it! I think it is safe to say that Ms. Kandle has a hit on her hands with this one!! If you like small town romance stories with a southern twist, then this is the perfect read for you!!

Okay so this is the second book by Tawdra Kandle that I have read. There where things about it I liked and some that I didn't. I had a really hard time rating this book. While I really liked Mrs. Kandle's writing style, almost all of the characters, the town the book is set in, the plot concept, I didn't like the heroine Maureen. I didn't hate her or anything. I just found her weak, cowardly, insecure, and super immature. I felt bad for her really, but I didn't connect to her at all. The things she did in the book drove me crazy. The fact that in college after being in love with Smith for years, she goes to tell him her feelings at a party where she knew he went with a date, and when she sees some girl kiss him she runs off and gives away her virginity to a man she didn't even know the name of is just one of the things she did that had me cringing. I mean come on. Then years later as a 30 year old woman she dates a man she feels nothing for, just uses poor Tim because she thinks Smith just wants to be friends. I loved the hero Smith. Although I didn't really understand him waiting to tell her how he felt. I get everyone was telling him to let her date poor stupid Tim and woo her but really it was stupid advice if you ask me. I felt he should have just been honest. All the relationship angst was uncalled for. If they would have just pulled their heads out of their butts and been truthful. Smith's wooing was weak at best and if I was Maureen I would have been confused too. He wasn't clear at all so it wasn't all her fault. That being said honestly I didn't really feel like I was reading a romance. They didn't really have anything going at all until almost the end. My kindle read 82% when Smith finally told Maureen that he loved her and kissed her.

Isn’t this cover so cute? I think it really embodies Maureen, Smith, and of course the dog. We briefly met Maureen in the first set of Burton books (I’m so happy to be back in Burton) and even then I was interested in her story.

Maureen really hit home with me since I had the same situation with my now husband. She is oblivious to Smith’s feelings because she thinks there is no way that incredibly hot guy could care about her even though it is obvious to everyone around her that he did.

Maureen was naive and felt she wasn’t worthy for anyone especially someone like Smith, she thought she was forever friend-zoned. Sometimes we need someone to show us that we are worthy. Don’t worry, Maureen was never whiny and she is not weak by any sense. She has a veterinary practice, strong relationships with family and friends but she was unlucky in love. I loved how the book went back to show Smith and Maureen in college too and we got to see the feeling develop.

All the pieces in Maureen Evans life are falling right into place, she is moving into her own home, a friend and her are opening a Veterinarian business, and now the next thing on her "to do" list is to find love. Up and until now, she hasn't made much time for dating because she has been too focused on getting her business started, and also still a little hung up on lingering feelings for her friend Smith. As soon as she met Smith Harrington in college, an instant friendship bloomed, and while she always wanted something more with him, he always found a way to keep her in the friend zone. And now that he is going to be her business partner, and tenant, she figures it is best time as any to let her feelings for him go, and finally move on with someone new.

Smith Harrington has been in love with Maureen Evans since the first time he laid eyes on her back in college. He always tried to make his feelings for her known, but she never seem to pick up on his hints, or his flirty advances. So he figured she just wasn't interested in anything other than friendship, so he tried to move on and let his feelings go, but no matter how hard he tried they were always there lingering. When she called and offered him to go into business with her he jumped at the chance to be close to her again, and hopes that he might finally be able to convince her that they would be perfect together.
