This time around we learn even more about everything that is going on, especially the two main characters Riley and Andrew. The two have been best friends for a long time and balance each other out very well, which is definitely needed so things don't get out of control with Riley being so competitive. I enjoyed reading about their journey with the TV reality show they participate in for their small town while watching their friendship morph into something more. I was hooked from the beginning by those charming characters.
Another great read by Rachel Schurig, as usual she doesn't disappoint. I've loved her books for years now and recommend them highly.
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I started reading and expected a love story right away. What I found was the vulnerabilities and insecurities that everyone experiences when single and dating. Riley and Andrew, the main characters, both show moments of this and it tugs on your heart. Everyone who has been single or dating can relate. You find that you want to cheer them on and encourage them. They are two wonderful people. Riley is driven and hard working. Andrew is comforting and fun. The story is made even better that they have been best friends forever. You fall in love with Riley and the personal pain she experiences with her mom. You cannot help but hope more develops with Andrew at the sensitive support he shows during her moments of vulnerability.
They could live a wonderful life just as they are, but can getting together make life even better? The answer is all over these pages. I loved book one, "where your heart is" and book 2, Always You, is a wonderful twist of romance. I cannot wait to read about the next couple in the Lilac Bay series!!
The characters from Lilac Bay are all very entertaining, and I love a good best friends to lovers story, but it all just seemed a little superficial to me. I would have enjoyed a little more depth into the feelings and back stories of the characters.
That said, Always You has definitely made it onto my list of good, light books to read when I need a pick me up. It just wasn't quite what I had expected.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to review, but I would have bought it anyway.
