We bought this as a Christmas gift for our 1st grader who is very interested in science. He loves these slides and could spend hours looking at each and asking questions. They are pretty sturdy as well. My husband dropped all of them as soon as we received the package, and none were broken. I was able to put them all back in order with the slide list that was provided in the box. There is a good variety of specimens to look at. My sons loves the ones with vivid color. This is the perfect compliment to the starter Amscope microscope. We will most likely be purchasing a larger set for his birthday.

I bought this to go along with a microscope I purchased for my grandkid's birthday. While I bought her blank slides and all the accessories, she enjoys these prepared slides which eliminate all the work.
The only downside is the box that holds them. After three weeks it no longer closes which means my son will have to replace the box.
This is perfect for all the would-be aspiring Dexter Morgans in your life, but the box is a dud.

I use a microscope at work and my grandson always is curious about it and wanted to learn to use it. I count yeast cells. That's the only think I use it for - not very exciting for an 11-year-old. Now, he has prepared slides and likes looking up the information online for what he is seeing through the scope. This is just what I needed to help his interest in science.

These well priced slides are beautifully prepared and the selection is interesting and diverse. I bought this for an 11-year old child and gave it to him along with my old microscope and a selection of blank slides, covers, and stains. This set provided the right amount of instant results to be varied and interesting as he learned to use the equipment. It invited many comparisons and gave him plenty of ideas and inspiration to find more things to look at on his own. I should probably mention that it also gave him the much-enjoyed "bonus" of being able to show "cool gross stuff" to his friends. However, a year later he is still using his microscope and he prepares his owns slides. Though he only occasionally refers back to this set now, I am glad he has it in his library. I am extremely pleased with this purchase.

This is a great collection of slides and we enjoy looking at them over and over again. I just wish it came with a guide to what we are looking at. They are labeled and it tells you the location of the slide, but it would be neat to have a booklet or something that tells us what the different parts of what we are looking at are and also explaining some of the lesser known samples. These are dead samples, but I'm also wondering if there is an option (if it's even realistic) for purchasing live samples or if it's better to come up with those things on our own.

Super cool set! We purchased this set AmScope PS25 Prepared Microscope Slide Set for Basic Biological Science Education, 25 Slides, Includes Fitted Wooden Case for our five-year-old nephew. Amazing! The slides have a wide variety of interesting things to look at: bee parts, cross sections of parts of dogs, plant materials, etc. These slides worked perfectly with his basic microscope (not a very high powered one) and he could easily locate and see the items on the slides. There was plenty of detail visible, even with a low powered microscope. The slides are housed in a very nice wooden case and are all clearly marked. We were so pleased at the high quality of this kit--super value for the price! I'll definitely buy products from this company again.

I bought this for my 7 year old. It isn't meant for children that age. Wait till the kid is at least 13... it has things like the lining of a dog's stomach, but the kids don't really understand how all that translates to a smudge on a slide at that age. Need a little more understanding of how cells work and what they look like, etc. They really need a biology unit in school before this set can really be of use and interesting to them, otherwise they just won't know what they're looking at.

I purchased these for homeschool purposes for my very curious 3- and 4-year old. My advice - save your money. Most of these slides have poor quality control; they are full of artifacts that can be confusing for an inexperienced viewer. The blood smear was very poor and the pig motor neuron, well, it wasn't really anything. I should know, I've viewed plenty of motor neurons and this was very poor quality.
The two slides that were really nice were of the bee mouth and the bee leg. Those, in contrast to many of the other slides, were nicely mounted and it was easy to observe a high level of detail. I wish they had included more insects to view; then these might have been a more satisfying purchase.
