Review
Perhaps once in a century a book comes along to break the shackles of dishonest reporting that bind the thoughts and actions of generations. This author, whose South African bloodline traces to the beginning of the settlement at the Cape of Good Hope in 1652, has written such a book.
For three generations we have heard political propaganda masquerading as news, and history telling a politically tainted story about South Africa. Much of it was blatantly false, and even more was misleading. With this fresh new book we hear the missing "other side of the story", the REAL history of Southern Africa from someone who was there, and who knows and understands it.
In this highly readable and exciting history, Harry Booyens makes the dramatic and often outrageous history of South Africa vividly clear to anyone with an open mind. For the skeptical, there are over a thousand footnotes. But this book is not just another compilation of safely Politically Correct quotes and excerpts rehashed from other books. This is the real thing; original, up to date, and generally reflecting what I saw on my trips there. Written for American and European audiences who were politically active in South Africa, it holds severe warnings for the United States and the West as a whole.
AmaBhulu is a must-read for anyone interested in Africa, and compulsory for anyone who would presume to comment on South Africa. It should be required reading for every student of Africa and every International Diplomat, and it should be in every serious Library.
This remarkable new work is without peer!

From the Author
As a reluctant author, I have felt forced to create AmaBhulu in response to the savagery and abuse besetting South Africa in the 21st century. If the Western media had exhibited professional balance in the matter of that tortured country, there would have been less need for this work. However, almost 60 years of slanted reporting has created a desperate need for the broader South African story, properly substantiated by evidence.
Creating this work consumed seven years and took me to the smallest of villages in Europe and out of the way places in South Africa. As I followed the bread crumbs of information on the trail of history, it turned into a journey of discovery in several domains. Perhaps I even discovered my true self.
To those readers in North America, Western Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, I give you AmaBhulu, the story of your disowned kin deserted to the forces of savagery in Africa; sentenced to death on the altar of the guilty conscience of Europe and North America in the matters of Colonialism and Slavery.
To those in South Africa, it is the story of who you are.
From the Back Cover
The West has finally realized that "bringing Democracy" to the Middle East and Southwest Asia is not necessarily in the best interests of Western Civilization. Radical Islam is hijacking its plans and making a mockery of Democracy itself.
In South Africa, an earlier experiment in Bestowed Democracy is failing under a burden of abuse. Much taken with its own role in undoing apartheid a full generation earlier, the West prefers to look away. It appears to treat the plight of Western people in that country as a form of required penance. In the process, it indulges what is in effect a corrupt One-Party State Kleptocracy run along the Party Congress lines of its original mentor, the defunct Soviet Union.
AmaBhulu is a view of South Africa through eyes different from those employed in fifty years of media reporting, social science, and politics. The author walks the reader from the 1652 landing of the Dutch to the present by following his own family bloodlines as example through the documented history of the country, supported by copious evidence. As settlers, soldiers, slaves, and indigenes, they farm, they fight, they triumph, and they lose. They are mercilessly impaled and massacred by savage African tyrants. They are hanged and fusilladed by an imperial overlord, and herded into concentration camps. Yet, they persevere to create a key Western Christian country; the envy of all Africa and a Cold War bulwark of the West. Eventually it falls to the author to describe the loss of his country through forces beyond his control.
In 1797 the British Royal Navy feared South Africa would become a "Second America" for Britain, while, in the 20th century, the country was to Africa what the United States was to the world. AmaBhulu describes the developing crisis in the Second America that will inevitably entangle the First America. It is a study in the death of Civilization by its own collective hand; a severe warning for the West.
AmaBhulu should give pause to every thinking Westerner.

This is a book that all liberty loving people should read, and share with their friends and family. Dr. Booyens' attention to detail and thorough reconstruction of historical events provide a window to the history of South Africa that is all encompassing and masterfully researched. To understand the history of AmaBhulu (the white tribe of Africa) is to understand sacrifice, determination, and persecution, beyond anything that we can ever learn from a biased mainstream media and liberal worldview. As bad as apartheid was, it pales in comparison to life under the communist controlled ANC and the return to tribalism and anarchy that has only accelerated over the past decade. The lessons to be learned from abandoning ideas that work, for ideologies and causes that are designed to fail, should cause alarm for thinking citizens in 21st Century America. This thought provoking book foretells a world without the 20th Century American vision of freedom; hell bent on defeatism, political correctness and nihilism. This book is a must read and will remain a true Afrikaner historical classic for many generations to come.

I enjoyed reading this book. It provides a clear history of events as they actually unfolded. The characters, their ambitions, their successes and their frustrations almost become alive. One realizes when reading this book that once again popular media does not portray a balanced view on events as they unfold, but that there is always an agenda that is served. The agenda causes certain events to be highlighted and others to be obscured. This book brings many obscured events clearly to the surface. The book presents the history in a well balanced manner.
South Africa is currently ruled by the ANC which is the slave of the SACP (South African Communist Party). The international world rejoiced as power was handed over to the ANC, but the RSA is currently in a dismal state. As one example, the official murder rate is about fifty per day which compares to a war zone. How did it come about? Read the book and find out what really happened.
What does the future hold? Harry Booyens portrays a very bleak picture which is well justified considering facts presented. The current state of affairs confirms his viewpoint. Man is however inclined to be an optimist and many an optimist succumbed during pogroms. It is hoped that the future proves Harry wrong. Can this tragedy be avoided? There is unfortunately no clear answer.

Kindle Edition.
Easy to find links fast and you will need it to cross check the different parts of the book.
The author, a scientist, gives an interesting and direct account of the history of the Afrikaner by tracing his own roots through history. There is no sugar coating here. It is well researched and written in an engaging style.
Read this for an alternative view on this lost tribe of Africa.

Harry Booyens book, AmaBhulu is a passionate, meticulously documented history of South Africa. It traces the origins of that country from it’s very first settlers, who they were and how they got there, through multiple wars and external interference, population migrations and turmoil and all the multitudinous forces that led to Apartheid, it’s downfall and the current sorry state of the country today. In addition it traces the parallel path of his ancestors, back almost to the beginning of settlement in a way the makes the events of the distant and recent past personal and deeply painful. With more than 30 pages of bibliographical references, many of which are primary source historical documents and dozens of footnotes in each chapter anyone who cares to may check its accuracy.
The book must be read with an open mind and a willingness to have ones preconceived notions of what South Africa was and is demolished. That said, I urge you to read the book, look at the references and judge it’s accuracy for yourself.

This is a superbly well researched and compiled book of historical facts about the fortunes and misfortunes of the Afrikaner nation and South Africa as a whole from the period prior to April 1652 to the present.
As a current citizen of this failed state, THIS BOOK SHOULD BE REQUIRED READING, not just for those outside this beautiful country, but also for those inside its borders.
To understand where you are heading, you need to know where you came from and AmaBhulu is just that!

On behalf of Rita Herselman:
I did genealogical research myself about some of the family lines summarised and linked together by the author in his book "AmaBhulu - The Birth and Death of the Second America". For that reason I have benefited much from the information which is presented in such an interesting style. Furthermore, the history of our land, South Africa, is offered so vividly and truly, it fascinated me in such a manner that I couldn't resist the temptation to continue reading and reading! To have this book at one's disposal is a must for every history lover. Thank you, Harry!

A wonderful read, made personal by following the genealogical steps of the author from the very beginnings of the South African nation. Harry has an easy-going story-telling style that makes this the first historical work that I am unable to put down. Riveting stuff, with quite a number of surprising revelations about our country's colourful past.
All South Africans need to read this book. A rare objective look at the history of South Africa!

My initial review was harsh due to the amount of detail in the book & this book would require 2 -3 readings. This is a beautiful book of the history of South Africa. If you want to learn about the land question in South Africa look no further. Harry this is a beautiful book, when I read it, I feel a connection with my ancestors.
This book should be mandatory for every South African of European heritage to know the truth about the Cape, the players in the game & who & when did the various tribes enter South Africa. Apart from this book, I read the writings of Dias & Da Gama before reading this which all confirm the same thing.
There were no Bantu tribes in South Africa until the early 1700s, they might have wondered the area, but the coastal regions were empty, only Khoi/San were there. They themselves were displaced by the Bantu Migrations South into the country.
Great book, I cant put the book down.

This is probably the best historically, factual, accurate book on South African history ever written. The length that the author must have gone through to obtain all this factual data is absolutely mind boggling. What I really appreciate is the objective manner & views in which Harry Booyens goes about this mater piece.I can definitely urge all & sundry that have never ever heard the truth about South Africa,to get this book and take your time & do your research in every single page.I do get it that the liberal left will not get this but I am sure there are very open minded people that will truly benefit from this masterful work.Thank you very much Harry. My eyes for one are open now.

I am giving this book 1 star for the family history element. As for the rest of the book I'm not too keen on it. Bit of a throw back, in the main, to early twentieth century settler and Afrikaner nationalist historiography - from where most of the information is derived. That would have been OK if we still lived in that period but SA historiography has moved on a long way in the last 20 years. Booyens obviously has no time for modern historians, the British or black Africans.
