Cycle Status Bar

Cycle Status Bar
Easily see where your load is in the cleaning process. Plus, it tells you when the lid is locked for safety during the spin cycle.

Advanced Suspension System
Now your washer can go places it's never been before, like in living areas, upstairs or near bedrooms. The advanced suspension system senses each load and stabilizes the wash basket to reduce vibration and noise.

  • 8 Wash Cycles
From delicate items to towels, you'll be able to care for it all with eight different cycles to choose from.

  • Automatic Temperature Control
Sensors monitor the flow of incoming water, adjusting as needed to maintain the temperature you select and keep cleaning consistent.

  • Casual Cycle
Use this cycle to wash no-iron fabrics like sport shirts, blouses, casual business clothes, permanent press and blends. A lower spin speed helps keep them wrinkle-free.

  • Load-Size Option
Wash smaller loads without the guilt. Three water level choices allow you to match water used to load size, helping to reduce water waste.

  • Delicate Cycle

Before You Buy

Q Are you interested in cutting down the time it takes to do laundry?

A With washer spin speeds of up to 700 RPMs, drying will actually start in the washer. Faster spin speeds mean extra water is removed from clothes, so they take less time to dry.

Q How much noise and vibration does your current washer cause in your household?

A Vibration and noise are reduced with this washer's advanced suspension system that senses each load and stabilizes the wash basket. So your washer can go places it's never been before, like in living areas, upstairs or near bedrooms.

Q Do you ever wonder where your washer is in the cleaning process?

A The cycle status bar shows you which portion of the cycle the washer is operating, including Wash, Rinse, Spin and Lid Lock.

This Amana top-load washer is a good washer. It has many good features:

It has 3.4 cu. ft. of capacity which is great for a top-loader. I have a king size blanket/comforter that will fit in this washer which means no more trips to the laundromat!
It automatically locks the lid at certain times so it can spin faster. This enables better cleaning and is a good safety feature as well. Since I have small children, I appreciate this feature. If you forget to put something in and need to put it in after the cycle has started, you just have to pause the wash to get the lid to unlock.
It shows you on the front at which point you are in the cycle with a light. This is not a necessity but just a nice feature. A typical wash on Normal Heavy (which is what I typically use) takes about an hour and ten minutes, which is not too long.
It has a gray interior basket so you can see socks in it - no more losing socks in the washer!

There are only two things I dislike about this washer:

The NOISE. During the wash cycle, this thing makes an awful loud creaking noise. It is much louder than our old washer. We have it in the garage so it is not too bad, but this washer might be really annoying if it were in the house.
Also, I wish this washer had the option to add an additional rinse cycle at the the end of a wash. Most washers of this price do offer this option. It has a separate rinse and spin cycle which you could run manually after a normal cycle is over, but it would be really nice if you were able to have it run automatically if you choose.

Overall, this is a very nice washer. I have washed multiple loads of adult clothes, toddler and baby clothes, towels, sheets, and a few delicates, and everything has come out nice and clean.

This machine has some very likable features. The novelty of the locking lid is interesting, especially when there are babies running around the house who take off their dirty clothes and put them in the washing machine. 95% of the time it is fine but occasionally they throw muddly clothing in a load that is already in the rinse cycle. I also have a terrible habit of leaving the lid open while the washer is filling and going through its initial wash cycle. My old washer would not spin and rinse while the lid was open but it was still a bad habit. This one won't do anything until its lid is locked down to allow for a faster spin speed, according to the guide. I sort of wonder what kind of liability issue caused them to have to do something like this but it's probably better not to know. It probably had something to do with a cat.

The spreckle basket: This is a nice old-fashioned touch. We had one in a 30-year-old Kenmore that was in our old farmhouse when we started remodeling. It was the only appliance that survived the remodel. Had we known that the next Kenmore washing machine would start requiring annual repair after three years, we might have kept the old olive green ones a few years longer. I also like how deep and a little narrower this basket is because it allows true immersion by the agitator. Even the down blankets get immersed without having to constantly push them down.

This is a good, basic washer. The use and care guide is 14 pages in English and it is amazingly straightforward.
I also like the simplicity of hot, warm, or cold water. Isn't that generally all you need? I don't like deciding between cold-cold, cold-warm, warm-cold, warm-warm, hot-cold, hot-warm. 99% of the time I use cold-cold anyway.

The Amana NTW4501XQ washer is a value entry in the washer market. While this model is low-cost "value" model it is still a very effective washer and offers all of the essentials.

Notes -

- Not super quiet but also not the loudest washer on the market

- The agitator oscillates to help improve agitation and drying/water removal efficiency

- Status indicator to show what stage the wash is in

- 3 temperature settings - Cold - Warm - Hot -

- Various settings for time and agitations settings

- It is a top loader - and it includes a central agitator

- 3.4 cubic feet of washing room

- Seems to be well-built, especially for this price point

Final Verdict - A nice, no thrills washer that is effective in washing your clothes without breaking the bank. If you looking for a highly customizable washer you likely will not be satisfied. You will be giving up some washing space due to the presence of the agitator. However, the Amana NTW4501XQ provides a nice effective washer at a low price.

I gave away my Washer and Dryer that was sitting in storage for just over a year since I thought that I would never use them again after moving into an Apt. Well I just bought a house and need a washer and dryer. I was holding off on purchasing them, as I have been spending money like there is no tomorrow since buying this house. With California's new law wanting sales tax from internet purchases I thought I had better get them now to save a little money.
I ordered this machine after reading the description and thought this is the machine that I needed. The ordering process with Amazon went very smooth. The delivery company called me the next day to schedule a delivery. They showed up when they said they would, unboxed the machine and took the packing material away with them. I had to go get two hoses to hook it up the water supply. This machine has a locking lid that is different than the older machine that I used to have. I set the washing cycle, the water level and temperature pushed the start button and nothing happened. The machine made some noises like it was trying to turn on the water to fill it then stopped. I pushed the button again, same thing. I tried it again, nothing. Hmm. I disconnected the water lines to see if water was coming out which it was so I connected them again turned them on and pushed the start button. Same noises.. No water going into machine. I started to get mad and was walking around my garage talking to myself when it occurred to me to go and read the instructions. I thought that I was smart enough to operate a washing machine without having to read instructions. I guess I wasn't.
