Long-time Luxardo lovers, we tried these on a lark and find that while they are a bit less dense and complex, we prefer the Amarena Toschi cherries for drinks. They have a firmer texture and the slightly less intense taste makes them more compatible with a broader variety of cocktails. For people who really like the deep velvet Luxardo taste, these may not fit the bill. That said, they are recommended as a worthy alternative to the firmer, more watery American style maraschinos (to say nothing of the candy-sweet variety that reminds me of the Shirley Temples I got as a kid).

I had been looking for someplace to find these incredible cherries...I first had them in old fashions at some of the nicer "drinking establishments" ("BAR" just isn't right when talking of these jewels of delight) I had asked what they were and was told "Griottes"...however I didn't realize that there were so many different kinds of fancy cherries that it was hit or miss for a couple of months as I would try cherries that were good but just not quite the same....Imagine my delight to discover that I found them right here on AMAZON!!I wasted so much time not coming here first! I ordered both the Amarena Toschi Italian Cherries in Syrup (RED jar)as well as the Fabbri Amarena Cherries in syrup ( 2 of Fabbri Amarena Cherries in Syrup - 21oz. Decorated Jar )...They are both just so delicious it is hard to describe..they have a texture that has a slight chew...nothing at all like even "good" Maraschino cherries) I had ordered them because I love Old Fashions..and am picky about the ingredients..must be such and such a bourbon..and I fluctuate between several ..Basil Hayden-Knob Creek-Bullit are my top 3 right now :) Well..I soon discovered that these cherries are so irresistible that I found myself eating them by the spoonful...then putting on pound cake and ice cream....now I have discovered a less fattening way to enjoy these...I get the FAGE (Fa-hey) non fat yogurt..and pit a tablespoon or two on top..OMG..it is just amazing...I still splurge with the cake and ice cream ..and so far have avoided getting carried away by the other ways people have added these delicious jewels to enhance something!

I just had to go into my kitchen and have a small spoonful...too hard to write about these and not give in and have a taste!!:)

The jars containing the cherries are beautiful on their own and I'm sure I'm not the only one who saves them to use again!

I love these..can you tell!!!

Great flavor, just like the cherries used in better cocktail bars. Great in my Manhattans. I've kept it at room temp (50-70 F) for a few months with no spoilage or loss of flavor. The syrup is a natural preservative, just make sure you use a clean utensil to retrieve the cherries. Keeping in the fridge will cause crystallization of the sugar in the syrup and separation which might cause alterations in flavor.

Stumbled upon these delicious cherries in a local gourmet store...traveled elsewhere and could not find them...had to have them...you will as well...
UPDATE: Buy one jar of these, enjoy them, keep the exquisite jar and then order: Roland Amarena Cherries in Syrup, 6-Pounds 13-Ounce Can from Amazon and refill the jar from then on...You would have to own quite a tongue to taste the difference...your pocketbook will...

These are excellent Amarenas & the best price - however, the last two orders the lid was loose & in the last order leaked in the box with other items/am ordering them in can now until they get their sealing better.

We conducted a family taste test between Luxardo and Amarena Toschi maraschino cherries, and we deemed Luxardo the winner. For the purpose of decorating a grown-up cocktail, the Amarena Toschi cherries were not quite as good -- the syrup is runnier, and the taste and texture of the cherries not quite as wonderful. Nevertheless, as a decoration for ice cream, I would put Toschi in the lead -- the syrup is oozy enough to spread on the ice cream, and Toschi has Luxardo beat on price.

This is the most delicious stuff I have every had. Tasted it in a gourmet cheese shop where it was very expensive to buy so I tried Amazon and even though it is expensive it is not as much as retail store. You will never use a store bought maraschino cherry again after tasting this. The syrup these cherries are in is just as tasty. Great for Old Fashions or with cheese and crackers or on ice cream. Also to die for in a black forest cake. I'll bet the calories are huge but who cares. Enjoy!

You can get these in cans for less, but I really love these white milk glass jars, and the red print isnt a label, its printed directly on the jar itself. I save these jars and use them for flowers, to hold straws at parties, you name it.

But seriously, the cherries are amazing. Really really great on cheesecake, mixed into a good yogurt, drizzled on pound cake or chocolate cake, on ice cream...I buy these to use in recipes and then get the bonus of the great jar.
