Product Description

Amazing Grace, a compilation of well-known gospel standards, brings together some of country music''s brightest stars. From Lari White''s understated delivery of the title track to Martina McBride''s mandolin led version of "How Great Thou Art" to the Charlie Daniels Band''s soulful rendering of "Kneel at the Cross," Amazing Grace is a real treat for fans of both secular country music and white Southern gospel. Accompanied by a full band including a bittersweet fiddle and a steel guitar, Paul Overstreet kicks up the tempo with "A Mansion Over the Hilltop," while Shenandoah''s "Beulah Land" recalls both Glen Campbell''s take on high-lonesome balladry as well as the tight harmonies of Alabama. And sung by the sweetest voices of the genre, two of the loveliest tracks on the record are born of the bluegrass gospel tradition: "I''d Rather Have Jesus" and "Precious Memories," performed by Alison Krauss and the Cox Family and Emmylou Harris, respectively.

I honestly don't understand why anyone would want to hear "Amazing Grace" any other way but slow. Lari White sings it beautifully, with reverence. That's the way most of these tracks are. The females are the highlight. Lari White, Martina McBride, Susan Ashton, Allison Krause, and of course Emmylou. The production values are better than you can find on any country gospel album. I think Martina McBride's "How Great Thou Art" is being played on loudspeaker at the pearly gates for eternity. I'm not overly religious or emotional, but this album sooths my soul and brings a tear to my eye.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! This TRADITIONAL version of these timeless classics really brings back the memories. What wonderful rendtions performed with the original scores and at a worshipful and appreciative tempo. This is not a youthful exciting version of the classics, this is the GOOD STUFF! The way I remember them, you can hear the sincereity and praise in the artists voices! This is a vocal and spiritual homecoming.

There's a myth of sorts that says that if you're a Christian you have to buy gospel music, and vice-versa. I didn't buy this because of any religious or gospel reason; I bought it because I liked the artists. Going by that standard, it was very much predictable -- solid artists = solid songs. The one standout here is Martina McBride -- when she sings "How Great Thou Art," you feel as though God himself commissioned the recording. She is truly that spectacular. The rest of the disc is pleasant and charming.

This is one of my favourite Country Gospel CD's. Some of Country's most prominent artists are featured performing classic Christian hymns. Lari White does "Amazing Grace" unlike anyone I have ever heard. Billy Dean and Susan Ashton team up for "In the Garden". "Mansion Over the Hilltop" is done superbly by Paul Overstreet. The Charlie Daniels Band with "Kneel at the Cross" and Emmylou Harris with "Precious Memories" are both uplifting and superb recordings. This compilation is a must for those of us who love Gospel and Country music.

I discovered this title by accident at the public library. I loved it immediately, and bought my own copy. The old classics are played in various styles that would have you believing they were written only recently. The recording quality is excellent, and the collection of artists used prevents the sound from becoming repetitive. A MUST BUY for Gospel music lovers.

We have had this CD for many years. We love listening to it. We have all three of this set. If you like Christian music and Country music, this is a mix. Our daughter wanted it too, so we ordered it as a gift for her.

Great rendition of an old time favorite. My Grand-daughter is named Grace and I purchased it for her to show that she is loved by all. I love it and would recommend to others interested in this type of music.

Amazing Grace (A country salute to gospel) is a great gospel music for those who grew up on gospel and like country music artists.

However, the artists that are listed above for this album are not correct. For example, "I'd Rather Have Jesus" is by Allison Krauss & The Cox Family featuring Suzanne Cox and "Kneel At The Cross" is by Charlie Daniels Band. "Amazing Grace" is by Lari White. "Peace in the Valley" is by John Anderson (*really* good). "Blessed Assurance" is by John Berry (absolutely wonderful). Martina McBride sings "How Great Thou Art." Can you imagine her signing that song? Awesome! "In the Garden" is by Billy Dean & Susan Ashton and is my favorite. "Mansion Over the Hilltop" is by Paul Overstreet. "Beulah Land" by Shenandoah. Emmylou Harris sings "Precious Memories."
