Amazon is substituting a narrated version of The Amazing Spiderman. The voice over telling you everything that is happening on screen is not mentioned in the product write up and it spoils the movie for me, a non-visual-challenged person. And Amazon makes it nearly impossible to return or replace the product with a normal version. Hopefully someone will pay attention to this write-up and contact me. I am bummed about being out $14 for a video that I can't enjoy.

SURPRISING, GREAT FILM

With all the negative hype I'd heard and read concerning this film, I've been avoiding it like the plague. I then came across one of those you tube reviews that doesn't just tell you if a film is good or bad. It analyses the film fairly; takes it apart and explains the hows and the whys. And based on this type of review, I changed my mind and took a chance by renting it. I'm very glad I did; and I will probably end up purchasing a copy. That's how much I enjoyed this film.

It might be surprising to hear, but I think this version of Spider-Man is far better than the Raimi version, which seemed to be a little too silly. This version seems always to know exactly when to be humourous and when to be absolutely dead serious. And it works -- both ways. The funny bits are always a surprise. They don't telegraph the punch line, as some films tend to do. And I swear the serious parts just about broke my heart; which is something very, very few films are able to accomplish with me. Nothing seems rushed or shoe-horned in, just to get either a laugh or a tear. Again, it all works.

Then why not 5 stars? Because I never give anything 5 stars, unless it happens to be a genuinely PERFECT film in all respects, in all departments. And very few films achieve that. But this one unquestioningly achieves its 4 stars effortlessly. I definitely recommend this -- especially for Spider-Man fans.

One more small note: the performances are all as close to perfect as a superhero film can get. No one misses the mark or the proper tone of each scene. You really believe these characters. They never pull you out of that magical suspension of disbelief so vital to any well-done film.

My only complaint is some of the CGI. Most of the time, when the digital "puppets" are not moving too quickly, they are mostly believable. But when the action speeds up, the believability of their movement seems to break down; to become rather wooden, unconvincing. So, I only wish they had spent a bit more time (and money) to animate these characters more carefully. Other than this, I'm very pleased with this film and definitely recommend it.

This movie is decent for kids. There is no profanity. There is lots of action.

I would not pay for this to watch it for my own use.

There are a lot of questions that the director might have asked "How the fresh hell can we sell this to someone?" and in answering them he might have closed some of the gaping holes in this. (But then, my sons are 4 and 7 years old and they loved this. So, I am forced to conclude that this movie was made for children under 10.)

1. Peter Parker was shown with bruises all the time, but if he could have been damaged he would not have have lived through his fights with the Green Goblin.
2. The place from which he got the Spider Bite that made him what he was must have been the World's Least Secure Secret Research Facility.
3. The spider webs were not something that he could make himself, but he just happened to have come across the technology that he needed to travel across the city by spider webs?

Verdict: Not recommended for anyone over 10. I would pay about $3 for this movie to keep my kids quiet for a couple of hours.

I'm a Big Bang Theory fan and have started checking out the super heroes they always reference on the show. I bought this movie in 3D along with the triple feature DVD set with Toby McGuire. I watched the DVD's first, then this one. As with the McGuire's Spiderman, story slow to build. The 3D wasn't that great, a little disappointing. 3D during action scenes were better, otherwise just OK. Acting was good, but I had just watched Tobey's Spiderman and they changed the story so much. I realize they are setting up the mystery over his parents for future movies, but I like Tobey's movies better. I also didn't care for Emma Stone for some reason. After watching Tobey's Spiderman, this movie was a bit of a let down for me. I would also like to add the bluray disk wouldn't load and froze. Kept saying that function not permitted/supported when I pressed play. 3D worked great.

I surprisingly like this film. After the bad blood of Spider-Man 3, I wondered if a new Spider-Man was a good idea, especially after the POV teaser. However seeing the Lizard in the film and George Stacy being brought in, I was luke warm to it. Then I saw it and while I don't love it by any means, This was a great new take on the story and in some ways is more true than the original ones I grew up with. If you combine aspects of this film with some of the dynamics of the Sam Raimi classic, you'd get a good film.

But oddly after the 70's spiderman movies, then the Toby Mcguire movies, you would think this would be the same old. In fact its fresher, cleaner and more fun to watch than all the others before it. I really enjoyed this. I'm a fan of superhero films anyway, though I'm not specifically a Spidey fan. I felt fairly unenthusiastic about the previous Spider-Man trilogy and by the third one I kind of hated Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker.

So when this reboot came along I didn't expect much, especially a reboot of a franchise so recently done-to-death.

Turns out, I really enjoyed it.

Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker is an updated version of the classic comic-book version. And I think that went a long way to making him much more relatable for me. The storyline is really well paced and whereas the previous Spider-Man often felt somewhat indulgent, this one is lean and mean in all the right places.It doesn't over-use CGI, and plays a nice hand with the way Spider develops through the inevitable "discovering powers" scenes.

Another comparison is the one-off-love between Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker and MJ, and
Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker and Gwen. Maguire's Parker made me want to slap him, repeatedly. Garfield's Parker made me genuinely feel like this guy was having to make some tough choices during/after a period of turmoil.

I have loved Sam Raimi films ever since I first watched “Evil Dead”, So I was very thrilled to hear that he would direct the Spiderman film (2002), I was excited and he delivered, Spiderman 2 is actually my favorite, but Spiderman 3 was not too good, So with the collapse of Spiderman 4 and 5 during pre – production, Raimi walked away, So then Marc Webb directs the Reboot, honestly they have been a lot of Negative’s and Positives being thrown around about the reboot, but I liked it, Webb did a very good Job with this, the 3D is not the best out there, but it ain’t the worst either, story wise I felt it was well paced.

The Blu-Ray package is very nice, it consists of 2 Blu Ray discs, the second Blu Ray disc is packed with features, this is what is not specified here on Amazon, the first disc of this set has both the 3D and 2D versions of the movie, they are both on the same disc, just pop it in and select the version you want.

The Video is flawless, Crisp and Very detailed, The Audio is well timed and detailed too.
