In the book you will find: The short and simple Amazing Tales rules. So simple a four year old will be able to explain them. Flexible enough to cope with the most imaginative requests. Advice on creating Amazing Tales with your child. Covering the specific challenges of making up stories that work for kids, different ways of handling fights in children's games and ways to keep magic magic. Four sample settings for Amazing Tales, each with suggested characters and skills, tips for story tellers and ten story seeds - ideas just waiting to become Amazing Tales. Amazing Tales can be played with a single six sided dice. But a set of four dice with six, eight, ten and twelve sides are recommended. Amazing Tales was written to be played sitting at a table, curled up on a sofa or snuggled up in bed by a parent and one or two children. Amazing Tales lets your children make up any kind of character they want, such as aliens, robots, dinosaurs, fairies, knights, cowboys or superheroes. Amazing Tales was also designed to require no preparation on the parent's side. If your children are in the mood for a game you can grab the dice and get started. This is a how-to book with a simple RPG system that is flexible for the imaginations of elementary-age kids. I received it today and ran adventures all evening for my 5 & 7 year-olds (my wife joined in, too). It’s great for adults because there are enough kernels of ideas to get you started, as well as simple coaching for basic improv with small children. The challenge of building off of kids’ ideas is so much more engaging than typical kids’ games. And, they love to have a say in what happens.

Not only did I get to dust off my dice, but they also add an element of surprise. More importantly, when a roll fails, it organically forces kids to think about “what do I do next?” instead of dwelling on the loss.

This is not a follow-the-instructions-to-the-letter manual, but a guide to playing a simple game with big ideas, and my family absolutely loved it. My daughter burst into tears when it was bath time, and she had to abandon Kitty Rainbow, her flying princess knight.

I never leave reviews, but this might be the best ad I ever clicked through!

There’s so few rules you might think it not worth buying, but the advice and guidance given will really help you out when you’re in a jam. My oldest daughter (age 5) loves playing this and going on all sorts of adventures. My youngest daughter (age 3) isn’t quite ready for it yet, but she drops in as a sort of special guest appearance character now and then.

I used to role play with my friends from elementary school through college. Then one day, I grew up and got busy. Now that I'm successfully adulting, I wondered what games were available to introduce our daughter to RPGs. After all, creative thought play sounded like a great alternative to more mindless TV shows and video games.

The problem is that no one produces RPGs on a kid's level anymore. Toon is out of print and expensive to acquire. Other games I found were out of print, out of stock (even PDFs?!?), expensive or difficult to find. The answer was Amazing Tales.

So simple that the whole family was playing within minutes, yet tapping into the imagination like never before. This game is fantastic! It brought back the old RPG flame and gave our family something fun to do on a quiet night at home. If you're looking for your family or childrens' next adventure, try it out! Be sure and pick up some dice--and have some fun with colors and styles as they still come in all varieties.

Thank you, Martin Lloyd, for bringing your own family's fun to the rest of us in the form of an easy, colorful book that is sure to pay for itself over and over, adventure after adventure.

I am having so much fun playing with my family (husband, 2 and 4 year old daughters). We started the game with a made up problem after creating our characters and have been playing daily for like a week (about 30 min each day). We also act out our story and the girls love it! I check out the book for more ideas randomly and the story keeps going.

We got this because our toddler loves rpg games with her Poppa so we got this to help create some games we could play as a family. This is much easier than running a regular game with her, as this is easier to come up with ideas for those with smaller attention spans. We are very happy with it. Just keep in mind, it isn't a game in the sense most will think of it, it is a guide for gaming for your kids to introduce them to other more advanced rpg games like D&D and D.C.C. and etc.. I saw a few reviewers upset because they didn't understand the point of this book when they ordered it. Just a heads up. My D.M. hubby adores it and has run a few very cute family games for us so far!

If you were looking for "Pathfinder" or "GURPS" for pre-readers, move on; this isn't it. If you are looking for an outstanding guide to cooperative storytelling with a little bit of structure, you've found the right title.

While fully playable in its own right with a preschooler, the core principles of being an excellent DM or GM found therein can be scaled up to any age. There is a lot of sound advice on how to see the fantasy world through the eyes of one's player(s) and adapt accordingly. Frankly, this is the "meat" of the book--the actual rules fit on a single uncrowded page. Master these principles and it won't matter what tabletop RPG campaign you run; you will be able to encourage players to share and invest in your world, to start role-playing instead of just roll-playing.

Got this yesterday, (I've never played table top RPGs before), tried it out with the kids (5&7) fairly late in the evening - we completely lost track of time and got chased to bed after 2-3 hours. The rules work very well and the guides are spot on.
