As a mom, I love that you can change the batteries on the book. The batteries power a small light box that allows you to look at 16 x-rays. The pages of the book tell you which x-ray to look at for each page and then tells you even more information about each body part. It manages to pack a lot of information in a small space, but uses large pictures to do most of the talking. It covers head to toe, talks about broken bones and artificial joints, cavities, and ultrasounds. My kids (5, 4, 2) were absolutely fascinated.
I bought a used copy (for a penny) and was very impressed with the quality of the book.
I didn't give it a full five star rating bec the light box switch doesn't stay on without you having to press it as long as you want to keep the light on. If you stop pressing it, the light will be turned off. Would have been nicer if it wasn't that way. But all in all, its worth the purchase. We bought it along with the Beleduc Your Body - Girl 5- Layer Wooden Puzzle Beleduc Your Body - Girl 5- Layer Wooden Puzzle which she also loves! great way to teach/ introduce biology to little minds! :)
I think that this book can be used with an eager 4 y/o (with an interested parent), and up to age 10 or so.
My pediatrician wife says that she'd like it better if they provided more films of fractures.
