Coins disappear and in game purchases not showing up

At first coins were great. They're cheaper than paying for the in game apps via iTunes. I even bought a low end kindle fire just to be able to purchase the coins easier. However, the kindle does not play well with this game (Game of War: Fire Age) and several times while I was attempting to make an in game purchase with coins, the coins got deducted, but the items I purchased never appeared. The last time I purchased 10,000 coins, I only was able to get 1,999 coins worth. I lost two other purchase of 3,999 and 1,999 coins each. Amazon refused to credit me back the coins and the developer refused to credit me the items. Amazon said I'd gotten too many credits. I know I'm not the only one that has had this problem. I don't submit fraudulent claims. I've attempted three times to contact Amazon and have received no reply back. So, be very careful when you use coins for purchases and know you may lose your money in the process and have nothing to show for it and no support from Amazon or the game developer. I won't be purchasing coins any more. And as a long time Amazon customer, I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of customer service here.

Not my wisest purchase

I thought Amazon Coins would be a good deal, but after buying them I discovered that sales tax was being taken out of every in-app purchase I made.

I also unfortunately bought the largest denomination possible because the description says they can be sent as a gift and I thought I would be able to transfer some of the coins to another Amazon account--I'm a US citizen living in Japan, and some apps require an amazon.co.jp login while others require the .com one.

Evidently this is not actually possible.

It also turned out to be quite a lot of work just to buy the coins and use them in any apps due to my issues with having registered shipping addresses and billing addresses in two regions. And then with the in-game taxes, instead of saving money it ended up costing me more than if I just hadn't bothered.

Ultimately my purchase of Amazon Coins was a lot of time and money that I simply threw away. I can't say I would recommend them.

Used to be a great product

Used to be great, but the shrinking discount and new sales taxes makes it no longer worth purchasing coins. Most in-app purchases tend to have similar denominations to the amazon coins ($5, $10, $20, $50, $100, etc.), so before sales tax, buying amazon coins gives you just enough currency to make IAPs (with perhaps a few cents left over). But with sales tax, you have to buy extra coins just to cover sales tax. However, because of the limited selection of denominations, you have to sink more money into coins than you need to make the purchase, tying your money into coins (now frequently on the order of a few dollars stuck in coins that I don't have a use for). Before taxes, it was simply the hassle of making multiple transactions, now with taxes on IAPs, I'm also tying up my money into a potentially useless product. The healthy discount of 10-20% off on $100 purchases made this hassle and annoyance just barely worthwhile, but the discount keeps getting smaller. I came online to purchase coins, but then was shocked by the sharp cut in the discount provided by the coins. I no longer like this product and won't be purchasing coins until the discounts go back up.

EDIT: Discount on some denominations have gone up while others have gone down. At least the smaller denominations are slightly better. Will raise stars more if discounts stay or go up.

Get charged a double sales tax in 28 states, beware Wisconsin!

Okay so here's the long and short of it and less you buy a pack of at least 5000 the savings will not negate the sales. You are taxed in several States including my state of Wisconsin for All Digital purchases. Now let's say you're like okay fine you're going to go spend your coins on an in-game map, for this reason let's say the very popular game Hearthstone. You take your 5000 coins to the in-game shop and buy their 4999 car pack. You will be taxed in coins of abot 274 coins. but guess what amazon doesnt have an individual or split purchase option. so you really needed to buy 1x5000 coin and 1x500 coin. so thats two different purchases on two small discounts, both taxed. all to make on purchase that us again taxed.... keaving you with an odd amount of coins with no cash in value in excess. you spent 51.43 to buy 5500 coins to spend 5274 coins leaving you with 226 un-usable coins. you would need to buy another entire set of 5500 coins to have enough coins left to cover the 3rd 500 coin purchase total. Now here's the kicker, this is amazon specific to indivudual states and sales taxes. BUT google play issues tax based on company headquarter locations. So in the case if Hearthstone (california) google has no digital sales tax. meaning that 49.99 cost 49.99 . Amazon coins are BS they get taxed on purchase and use and can not be bought in specific denominations or split payment types, and only a wee fraction of games utilize the coin back feature. Unless you live in one of the 22 states with no digital sales tax, get your apps via google play store or apple store and pay cash.
