The GVP tourmaline I currently am replacing is well over 8 yrs old and it's still running. The only reason I'm replacing it is because it's old and it's very squeaky after years of use and from tossing it around at home or traveling. It's a fantastic iron but it's time to replace it. Those irons are about $50-75 depending on the model.
I saw this Amazon Basics brand and it has specs that are very similar to my old one, except that this one has a digital touch display.
I went for it and I'm very pleased to say that I'm impressed! For the price, I didn't expect much. However, once I unpacked it and took a look at it I was so happy to be wrong.
It doesn't feel cheap at all. It's has a decent weight to it. It has a satin smooth finish. It's sturdy and assembled well and it's quiet. It has an ergonomic shape so holding it in the hand is comfortable and easy. The handle doesn't heat up like my old one. It glides smoothly through my hair and it leaves it shiny and silky.
The digital display is very sensitive so it's easy to adjust. Pushing the power button locks the chosen temperature and keeps your hand from accidentally adjusting the settings. It had a pleasant alert sound and the display is easy to read. So far, after a couple of uses, I'm very excited that I have it. Time will only tell how it stand up to time, wear, and tear. I'll update if there's any changes.
So far, for the price, it's a fantastic buy.
I'm impressed! Works better than my old GVP.
