Ed Sheeran has announced details of his new album ‘=’ (Equals), confirmed for release on 29th October through Asylum Records.

‘=’ - the fourth instalment in Sheeran’s symbol album series - is Ed’s most accomplished work yet; the evolution of an artist who continues to tread new ground. A body of tracks that were made over a four-year period following his seminal ‘÷’ (Divide) album era, thematically, ‘=’ finds Ed taking stock of his life and the people in it as he explores the varying degrees of love (‘The Joker And The Queen’, ‘First Times’, ‘2step'), loss (‘Visiting Hours’), resilience (‘Can’t Stop The Rain’) and fatherhood (‘Sandman’, ‘Leave Your Life’), while also processing his reality and career (‘Tides’). Sonically, ‘=’ encapsulates Ed’s versatile musical palette, spanning signature, guitar-led tracks and world-class balladry to weightier, euphoric production moments, as first showcased on this summer’s emphatic comeback track, ‘Bad Habits’.

Embracing Ed’s own truths, ‘=’ seamlessly captures both the intimate and every day; elevating universal experiences to a higher plane as reflected by ‘Visiting Hours’ - a track that finds Ed coming to terms with the loss of his mentor and friend, Michael Gudinski, and written shortly after his passing: “I wish that heaven had visiting hours / So I can just swing by and ask your advice”. Performed for the first time at Michael’s state memorial in March, the poignant track, which is joined by a stripped performance video and features backing vocals from Michael’s close friends, Kylie Minogue and Jimmy Barnes.

Written and recorded across Suffolk, London, Sweden and LA, the album’s executive production comes from Ed Sheeran, FRED (No.6 Collaborations Project) and Johnny McDaid (Divide), with additional writing and/or production provided by Steve Mac, Joe Rubel, Amy Wadge, Foy Vance, Elvira Anderfjard, David Hodges, Andrew Watt, Lou Bell, Natalie Hemby and Ben Kweller. Sheeran’s brother, Matthew, a composer, also contributes stunning string arrangements on ‘First Times’ and ‘The Joker And The Queen’. The album artwork is a vivid collage of butterfly imagery symbolising the albums’ thread of ‘new life’ and is backdropped by one of Ed’s own abstract paintings.

Ed Sheeran commented - “= (Equals) is a really personal record and one that means a lot to me. My life changed greatly over the past few years - I got married, became a father, experienced loss, and I reflect on these topics over the course of the album. I see it as my coming-of-age record, and I can’t wait to share this next chapter with you.”

Great songs as always from Ed Sheeran, Very disappointed with 14 tracks cramped on one vinyl record, of course the dynamics are going to suffer, the last few albums from Ed released on vinyl were double albums with 45rpm and they sounded brilliant!. I rather have two albums with better sound then limited edition red pressing. There is no download card with this record if anyone was wondering.

One can't help getting the feeling that unlike other best-selling artists Joe Bonamassa, Beth Hart and Taylor Swift to name but a few, Ed has decided to ride the vimyl wave and that of his popularity to give his premium revenue contributors a cheap offering with the latest album. The non-gatesleeve album cover feels thin and cheap, the 120g vinyl feels insubstantial and the LP is sleeved in the cheapest form of paper sleeve with no insert or album information such as you'll find other artists willing to sacrifice some profit to, in order to give buyers the experience they deserve when forking out the extra cash for a vinyl album. Great music yes, but if you aren't hankering after the tactile feel of of a vinyl album, you'd stream or buy a "cheap" CD, right? No wonder Ed's net worth is so far ahead of the artists who are willing to give something back to paying fans...

This is a great vinyl by Ed Sheeran with some gorgeous songs like Tired, Collide and Love in slow motion. I just love him and every song whenever heard by him. He's just one of the best vocalists and writes all the songs he sings. He's so talented and his voice isn't loud it's lovely and smooth and soft. Nothing to grate on one's nerves!! The words speak to me as if he's singing to me. It's a great vinyl to listen to in the evening rather than watching television. I know my late mother would love Ed Sheeran and all these songs and she'd say "he's not singing to you he's singing to me"!!! I can hear her now. God bless you mum. I'd recommend this LP Vinyl.

Awful quality vinyl!
Bought my fianceè a brand new record deck for Christmas. A very expensive record deck.
This was the first vinyl she played on it, and the sound quality is so poor that we thought there was something wrong with needle / stylus, or the connections to the stereo.
We then played some of her vinyl collection, dating back to the 70's, and the sound is crystal clear!
All of her collection sounds amazing...
Just this Ed Sheeran vinyl that sounds awful.
Grainy, scratchy, and not sharp at all.
So disappointing to hear such bad quality!
Love Ed Sheeran but this vinyl totally ruins the experience.
Worst Christmas present ....
If you're a lover of quality sound DO NOT BUY this vinyl. :(
Shall be returning & buying on cd instead.

Being a new fan and owning his previous albums, I must say that this album is his best yet, the red pressing is crystal clear in sound, I pleased it’s not a double album, as this plays superbly the way it’s mastered, the only negative was the internal sleeve (it’s just cardboard, I would have liked a pvc lined paper inner.
