Product Description

Amazon.com

We didn't have to go far to review this 16-foot tape measure, since there have been several lying around the Tools & Hardware offices ever since U.S. Tape started making them for Amazon.com. "The Amazonian," as we've come to think of this bad boy, is indeed a high-quality tape measure wrapped up in a snazzy Amazon.com package. The manufacturer's description is pretty accurate--the tough-as-nails housing is ergonomically friendly and it fits well in a tool pouch; the nylon-coated blade is rigid and durable and maintains a 7-foot standout; and the three-rivet end hook is as well made as any we've seen. In fact, literally the only thing keeping it from being a serious framer's tool is its 16-foot length, which falls short of the construction industry's standard. Other than that, this tape certainly measures up. --Mark McDonald

From the Manufacturer

This 16-foot tape measure from US Tape boasts a rigid 1-inch wide blade with an easy-to-read layout. The patented blade wiper cleans the tape each time it retracts, keeping grit and grime from infiltrating the housing and eliminating the risk of tape jam. The ABS plastic housing is compact and ergonomic, which means it's comfortable in your hand and fits well in your tool pouch. Better yet, tests indicate the patented nylon-coated blade is ten times more resistant to wear and rust than traditionally coated blades. Contractor features include 3-rivet endhook, sturdy belt-clip, and over 7 feet of unsupported tape-standout. Made in the USA.

This trusty tape measure served me well for 13 years before I finally had to retire it. It retracted smoothly, measured accurately enough, but finally stopped locking when extended, so it had to be replaced.

I got this measure some time back as a bonus in one of my Amazon tool purchases. It's part of my fleet of tapes and has not let me down. That said, it's pretty basic. You do have to calibrate the hook by bending it a bit and comparing the 12" mark to a more precise rule, such as a metal machinist's rule, in order to take advantage of the precision marks in the first foot or two.

It has been dropped on the garage floor and hasn't broken and the belt hook is still there. So, I guess it's fine for me.

Not your best tape measure out there, but I got mine for free for buying some other tools from Amazon...so it does the job.

Had it for a few years of very little use, but it eventually broke. The tape wouldn't reel back in.
