AmazonBasics 12-Sheet Cross-Cut Paper, CD/DVD, and Credit-Card Shredder
Quickly Shreds Confidential Info
Thoroughly shred multi-page documents (up to 12 sheets at a time) with this AmazonBasics cross-cut shredder. The machine quickly turns paper into strips measuring 7/32 by 1-27/32 inches. Use the shredder to destroy ATM receipts, credit-card bills, mortgage statements, pay stubs, insurance packets, and other old or unwanted info. It will even shred credit cards, CDs, DVDs, and Blu Rays (one at a time).
Helps Safeguard Your Identity
Shredding important documents has become a valuable component to protecting your identity. The AmazonBasics shredder minimizes your chances of falling victim to the havoc and hassle of identity theft. From document-heavy tax season to day-to-day bills and junk mail, the shredder offers exceptional convenience and helps prevent your personal info from going public.
The AmazonBasics cross-cut shredder provides the best compromise between price and performance. Choose the cross-cut shredder when you need to stay on budget but are looking for more security than that of the strip-cut shredder.
- Cross-cut shredder with 4.8-gallon bin
- 12-sheet capacity (no need to remove staples)
- Destroys credit cards, CDs, and DVDs (one at a time)
- Backed by an AmazonBasics 1-year limited warranty
Destroys CDs and DVDs
The shredder comes with a dedicated slot for destroying CDs, DVDs, and Blu Rays. Simply hold the disc by the edge and feed one at a time, releasing when shredding begins. The shredder will stop when the entire disc has been destroyed.
In auto mode, shredding begins once the sensor detects something to be shredded. Shredded paper then drops into the 4.8-gallon bin below, and manual reverse makes easy work of clearing any paper jams.
The cross-cut shredder will run continuously for 5 minutes before needing a 30-minute cool-down. If it shreds continuously beyond the max running time and begins to overheat, the unit will automatically shut off to protect the motor. For added safety, the shredder will also automatically shut off if it detects foreign objects.
The medium-duty shredder can handle 600 sheets per day, and it conveniently lifts off when it's time to empty the bin below.

Had unique opportunity to run this side-by-side with a much larger unit Royal RL170MX 17-page shredder, shredding 8-banker boxes of receipts over 6 hours. This small Amazon unit still runs like a champ. It overheated 2 times, whereas the Royal overheated 6 times. Paper was fed in at the same rate on each machine, maybe 5 pages at a time max. The Amazon shred size is slightly bigger, and the motor slightly louder, but I still hold to the fact that this is the best shredder I've ever purchased/used for the price. Very happy with this purchase. Thanks Amazon!
This thing is a tank. Still consistently running strong with no problems! I'm happy every time I use it because I feel like I got a good deal for the $$$.
Over a year later, and this thing is still kicking butt. It hasn't overheated once! Still super-satisfied with this purchase.
Shredder still going strong! I just shredded a few months backlog of stuff all in one sitting with the motor just about running constant for maybe 20 min straight. I only had to unload the hopper 2x- it is deceivingly large in capacity. I was just waiting for the motor to kick out due to overheating, since I've been conditioned for so many years by my former shredder, but it just didn't happen. On the old shredder, this volume would have taken 1 hr to shred due to motor overheating and auto shutdown. Still happy as a clam with this purchase!

Thank you amazon!
This shredder, while advertised as a 12 sheet, can't handle credit card offers very well compared to my other current shredder, the Fellowes Powershred W-11C 11 Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder (3103201) which is only rated for 11 pages.
This shredder is a more well rounded shredder compared to the Fellowes. This one has a dedicated CD shredding slot, credit card indention, and some additional "feel good" safety features. The paper chute is easier to hit when you approach it under a desk or at an angle. It has a window in the shred bin so you can see how full the bin is. It's a little louder and slower than the Fellowes.
That all being said, if you're looking for pure brute shredding capability, the Fellowes is that, with less frills, bells or whistles but it has the extra "grunt" to get through tough junk mail. The Fellowes is a little difficult to get the angle right if you are reaching for it under a desk, but all the features considered, I'd personally choose the Fellowes.
If you're just shredding a few sheets of office paper at a time, I'd choose this one as it's a better well rounded model.
After a few days of extensive use, the Basics unit has not jammed once, although it slows down when more than ten sheets are inserted at one time - but it still does the job. To avoid any slow down during shredding, about seven sheets maximum should be inserted at one time.
The credit card and CD shredders each have their own separate slot from the paper area and both handle the items as if they were butter. The function operates smoothly and efficiently. In comparison, my Fellowes shredder is larger, louder, handles less paper at one time and struggles to shred credit cards and CDS. The Amazon unit is infinitely better and seems quite solid.
The instructions recommend using shredder oil once a month, although a plain vegetable oil may also be used. It may be tempting to skip this step, but this is something I've been doing for years with my shredders and I believe has prolonged the life of the equipment.
And, I learned something new - the user manual stated that window envelopes, newspaper and padded envelopes should not be shredded. I expect many years of use from this shredder and will update my review if I encounter any problems.
