Copper clad aluminum is about ten times more resistive than copper. So if you are looking at this14 awg wire because you want to handle high current (why else do you need heavy wire?) then keep on looking. Google a wire gauge resistance chart and you will see that one thousand feet of 14 AWG true copper wire has a resistance of about 2.5 ohms, while this copper clad aluminum wire is approximately 25 ohms per 1000 feet. You should care about this, you are paying for 14 AWG and effectively getting only 24 to 22 AWG (very thin). Ohms law doesn't lie, one foot of this wire yielded a 300mV loss while carrying 12 amps = 25.6m Ohms, so that works out as 25 ohms per 1000 feet.

This wise is NOT copper, but copper clad aluminum. This information is nowhere to be found in either the product listing, or the product packaging. It will NOT take solder at all. Do yourself a favor and get actual copper speaker wire. It is easier to handle and will take solder as it should.

Love this wire. Great value and the system sounds wonderful (Klipsch 5.1 home theater system). Very glad I went with the 14 gauge instead of the smaller 16. They can be a bit of a beast to fit into the speaker wire ports on the speakers because of the size of the wire, but worth the trouble. The rubber sheath on it is sturdy, but was also easy to cut when needed during installation

These cables are not solid copper--but for short runs you can't tell the difference. If your cable runs are beyond 50 feet I would definitely consider going with something made of solid copper.
My configuration is a roll of Amazon Basics 14 gauge speaker wire cut into 25 foot segments to "bi-wire" a Pioneer SX-10AE receiver to two Polk Audio Monitor Series II floor standing speakers.
The quality of the configuration has blown me away, especially considering the price for all the components.

I ran this from a 2 channel amp to a set of component speakers running ~150W RMS per channel, and it handles the power nicely. I would recommend upgrading any stereo wiring to 14 gauge if you're pushing more than 75W RMS, as it will deliver more power than thin stock wiring. The wire has a nice insulation and the black striping along the negative wire was a great addition. Overall great quality and price, would definitely buy again.

No complaints. 1/10 the price of what it would've cost to buy wire like this at a giant home improvement store that rhymes with "repo" (if they had it, which they didn't).
That said, I don't subscribe much to the "oxygen-free copper mega-wire" religion, and believe that ohms are ohms and farads are farads, and when you use components like wire that meet the electrical requirements, you're going to get what scientific theory predicts. So how it sounds is a pretty silly thing to rate it on, from my perspective. This wire sounds like exactly what I expected it to sound like in my application: totally transparent. Don't assume that I'm not a demanding listener: I listen to a lot of vinyl on a multi $k turntable with a multi $k cartridge through tube electronics that I design and build myself that compares favorably with multi $k products in a listening room with consciously designed frequency and phase response, so I know a thing or two about audio reproduction. Wire is just not where the magic sauce is to be found. And this Amazon wire is one heck of a great deal.

This is not pure copper but rather is CCA (copper coated aluminum). But, unless your sound system costs more than your car, it will provide excellent performance while saving a good amount of money. I'm using this for relatively short runs to surround speakers and it's working just as well as the full copper wire I'm using with other speakers.
The jacket is thick but retains a decent amount of bendability for a 14g wire. No problems stripping the wire ends for connections. Great value for the price.

It's my go-to for speaker cable these days. For most applications it's all you'd ever need and the price is great. Also it's nice and flexible, and the polarity marking is very easy to see. Why spend more?

Aluminium speaker wire - good enough, but consider investing in better
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 8, 2017Length: 100 FeetConfiguration: 14-Gauge Speaker WireVine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )Verified Purchase
For short distances (up to three metres), that's fine. If you're running long cables to the back of a room, you should spend a little more and get OFC pure copper.
Another small difference is that aluminium is quite stiff - I cut myself slightly with it (it pierced the skin). Pure copper is much softer and would not do that. The decent stuff is about four times the cost, but you can get it in shorter lengths, so measure what you need: AWG 13 - 2x2,5mm² - 30m Role | DCSk HiFi Copper Loud Speaker Cable transparent | 99,99% OFC pure Copper

Fairly good quality but this is copper coated alloy and not copper wire, they work exactly as intended and are an affordable option but there are cheaper and more effective solutions available.

High quality and very heavy.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 2, 2019Length: 100 FeetConfiguration: 14-Gauge Speaker WireVerified Purchase
If you're expecting the sort of thin, floppy speaker wire that you get with a home stereo, you're in for a shock. This is much thicker and heavier. I bought it to use with an AV receiver and speaker system and am really pleased with it. The "rule" is that your speaker cable is going to cost about 10% of the cost of the receiver and speakers and most dealers really do charge far, far more for this type of cable. I could have used 16 gauge (Amazon basics do that too and it's even cheaper) but at this price, it was a no-brainer to go one better and save time if I want to upgrade the speakers in future. This would be an overkill for a stereo but for an AV set-up, it's just what you need (look online to see if you need 14 or 16 gauge). For what it's worth, I also bought some terrific Meyuwal banana plugs via Amazon to use with my amp and this cable - and they were a bargain too (five pairs for £6 and they're great quality).

Not copper
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 6, 2019Length: 50 FeetConfiguration: 14-Gauge Speaker WireVerified Purchase
Feels like copper and is flexible, but soldering (with RS SN62 genuine silver loaded solder and electronic solder paste) says it is not. I am an electronics engineer with 35 years experience and know how to solder. So disappointing that a usually high quality 'Amazon Basics' brand is actually cheap and nasty :-(
If just using screw terminals then you will be OK, but I do not recommend this product.
