One bonus is that the Amazon packaging means it is just a box with a twisty tie (the connectors have a small plastic protective end cap). So much better than the plastic packaging that requires a chainsaw to open.
To be clear, this cable is for plugging a mini connector such as your camcorder into your TV or receiver.
Check your device before you buy this cable though. The type C connection appears common among most tablets but the recent Kindle Fire HD 7" connection is a Type D. This cable will NOT fit any of the Kindle Fire HD tablets. The length of the cable is great for hooking to the back of the TV and being able to use your tablet at a nearby desk or by pulling up a chair closer to the TV. The quality of video produced by this cable from my tablet to the TV is just what I would expect via an HDMI connection, very clear picture. The cable is very durable as well, I often roll it up and put in my bag for trips and it hasn't shown any signs of cracking or failure in any way. I don't use the Ethernet feature of this cable but it is great to have that option should I need it in the future. Overall, I've been quite pleased with this cable and would recommend it to tablet users for home or travel use.
Before buying this, check for the exact HDMI-type you need:
* Micro HDMI
The cable itself is good quality - it's not braided like some of the higher-end ones, but the quality is the same and theres no reason to buy a high-end one (unlike Analog cables, there will not be any quality loss).
Since HDMI comes in various versions (Some don't do high-quality audio (DTS-HD), some don't do ethernet or 3D, some don't have Audio-Return Channel... so it's important to look at which version you need.). This cable is a v1.4 cable (latest version as of this writing, so it does "everything" including 3D (for a 3D camera like a Fuji W3)
Gold plated ends make for good connections between devices, and these fit securely for me. The cable is not flimsy or brittle, and at 6.5 feet (2 meters) length is fine for hooking most devices to your big screen or what have you.
I didn't get a chance to test the ethernet feature of this cable, as the devices I used it for did not have this capability.
Be careful when purchasing this item. One end is the standard hdmi, but the other is the mini c connector, used for things like digital video cameras, digital cameras, etc.
WARNING: this cable has one regular (Type A) and one MINI connector (Type C). It will NOT connect 2 regular components such as a TV and a receiver. The MINI connector is smaller/thinner and is meant for portable devices. However, you must make sure that your device needs a MINI because HDMI 1.4 added the Type D connector, oalso known as a MICRO connector which is even smaller/thinner than the MINI so make sure that you get the right cable.
It should work well with anything that supports HDMI 1.3x that needs a MINI connector but it's built to comply with the higher HDMI 1.4 or HDMI 1.4a standard. You may consider this product if you have TWO devices that support the HDMI 1.4 standard. For these, the cable will carry through HD images and Ethernet data therefore eliminating the need for one dedicated Ethernet cable and one Ethernet port. You may also consider this cable if you currently need an extra HDMI 1.3 cable but you are planning to to replace your existing equipment with some HDMI 1.4 ready hardware in the near future.
Unless either of the above is true, you will not need this cable and, given that the HDMI 1.4 standards aren't set in stone yet - the HDMI 1.4a was released recently - you should be better off waiting for the dust to settle if you don't need it today. Keep in mind that BOTH connected devices need to support the HDMI 1.4 standard for this cable to make a difference and that it is NOT possible to upgrade any existing equipment (TV, Blu-ray player) to support HDMI 1.4.
As far as HDMI 1.4 stands, this cable is the complete implementation. It supports ALL HDMI 1.4 features.
HOW GOOD IS IT?
- Behaves as a HDMI 1.3x 'high speed' or 'category 2' cable.
- As a 'high speed' HDMI 1.Read more ›
