This AmazonBasics Portable Space Heater 1500W provides a safe, stable, quiet, heat source that works very well in my drafty, old house.
This is a short but heavy heater that has hidden casters on the bottom so it is easy to move where you need it. There are digital controls on the heater itself but there is a remote included so you don't even need to get out of your seat (or bed) to turn it on and adjust the temperature. Although it has a fan to blow the heated air around, it's so quiet that I had to check to see that it was actually blowing heat! It begins heating immediately but, as with all space heaters, the size of the room and how cold it is to begin with will determine how quickly it heats the entire room. Also, closing doors and draperies will help the room heat faster and maintain the heat.
I have been using a heater that is virtually identical to this at a small, beach cottage and another in a small guest house for several years now. Neither house has central heat and both rely on space heaters in the winter. This style heater is by far the best we have used. If it's very cold when we turn it on (say in the 30s), it will take 2-3 hours to bring a 600 sq ft space to a comfortable temperature without wearing a jacket but if you sit near it, you will be warm immediately. It also has a built in thermostat so it will maintain the temperature you select very nicely.
Besides the excellent heating properties, there are other reasons that make this style heater superior. First, it's very stable. It's almost impossible to tip this over without really trying. That's great for households with pets and boisterous kids. Second, the casing doesn't get dangerously hot. It just stays warm. The grill in front of the fan does get hot but it's a relatively small area. You are unlikely to get burned on this so it's a nice choice for elderly people as well as kids and dogs. Of course, young children should be constantly supervised anytime a space heater is being used. I also like that there is cord storage on the back of the heater for the seasons when it is not in use.
I got both the black and the wood model. The black model is a bit smaller because it does not have the wood exterior. The exterior is painted metal but again, the casing does not get too hot to touch. The black heater has the digital controls on the top and there is an integrated handle on the top for ease in picking it up. The remotes to both heaters are identical and come with the battery installed.
The wood model has the same, inner, heater as the black model but it has a wooden, outer casing and the digital controls are on the front instead of the top. There is no carry handle on top of the wooden model, either, but it is easy to roll around on the casters. The wood model is just as silent as the black model and heats just as well. It's just a bit larger due to the wood casing.
Both came very well packed for shipping and I found no shipping damage on either model.
Space heaters are generally used to supplement central heating but you can definitely use them as the only source of heat. I am using these in a downstairs sun room that has no other heat source and in the living room as supplemental heat. It allows me to set the thermostat lower for the living room and it allows us to actually use the sun room in the winter months.
The price is excellent as it represents a significant savings over other brands and works just as well.

I know I just got it in yesterday so I can't speak of it's longevity but so far this is the best heater I've purchased yet and the price can't be beat. I have a very cold garage that's pretty big. We had the attic insulated but its still freezing cold in here. I purchased a heater on a stand to help warm it but it only warmed if sitting right in front of it. My fingers are still ice cold. So I got this new one yesterday and turned it on max. Within 10 minutes there was a NOTICABLE difference in the garage. Hubby noticed as well. No more ice fingers! Even with all the drafty areas, it's been a big help. I highly recommend this one. I've purchased probably 6 different heaters in the last 5 years. This one is the best, hands down.

Heater shipped, does not match specifications on wattage choice 1500/750 shown in listing.

Listing says it can be run at 1500 Watt, or 750 watt.i can not find any instructions on how to do that in manual that comes with heater. If you set a lower setting like 65 degrees for night use, a red light blinks constantly , if you setup five degrees higher, it sets red light blinking again constant. If you set temperature at 65, then turn on eco mode, it heats much hotter than the heat temp setting.

The heater works well in my bedroom. The thermostat is fairly basic and can adjust from 65 to 85 degrees in increments of 5 degrees. The eco mode is the same as regular mode, except it alternates between full power and half power and you can't set the thermostat. There's an automatic setting that meets the requirements for eco mode, but the owners manual doesn't specify what it is and I wasn't able to determine the average wattage from my simple wattage meter.
The heater initially draws around 1300 watts on normal and eco modes, but it eventually lowers the power on the latter. I wasn't able to get a picture of the low power but it's about half and it alternates depending on the temperature. I can't see why someone would use the eco mode unless they were really trying to save energy. The odds that eco will heat your room to the desired temperature seems low. But that's the only way to use less than the 1300w, aside from just adjusting the thermostat lower so it doesn't turn on as much. The fan alone uses about 15w, and that is used to help blow the heat out to the rest of the room.
I was surprised that the outside of the heater doesn't really get hot at all, so it's safe to have around pets for the most part. If the heater tips over, it will turn off, but it's a good idea to make sure it's on a solid, level surface and away from any walls. There is a huge list of warnings on a large, ugly tag that says "do not remove". I'm probably going to remove it, it's really terrible, but I'm sure it's a law.
The heater is well made and has a clean design. The worst part is the silly "AmazonBasics" logo on the top. I wish Amazon would just come up with a cool logo instead of printing that terrible text on all their AmazonBasics products. It is really bothers you, you could put a piece of electrical tape over it I guess.
Compact black space heater. Has wheels that make it easy to roll around. Operation is very simple from buttons on the unit or on the remote control. Remote has 3 buttons and can turn the unit on or off, activate eco mode, and adjust thermostat temp up or down.

Tip safety feature does not work! My first one didnt work and it made strange noises.. this is my second and neither shut off when tipped over...other than the safety features not working. The heater blows really hot and I like that it has wheels on the bottom to easily move it around.
