Defective Design

Well this is one of the first products I've reviewed. The design is defective. When you grind coffee , ground Coffee collects around the rim of the grinder so when you take the top off a little coffee spills every time you take the top off. You have to clean your counter every time you use this thing. Unfortunately I didnt return right away and I guess the window is closed on returning the item so 'll have to use it for something else other than grinding coffee. The last item to note here is that Amazon made this thing and it was an Amazon "Recommended product"... Defective choose another,

Makes a bit of a mess

I use this grinder for whole spices. As another reviewer noted, some of whatever you’re grinding comes out while you’re using the grinder. I was grinding spices for curry powder and it made a mess. Tons of spices were flying out of the lid all over my counter. The lid seems to have a larger than normal space so there isn’t a snug fit between the lid and the grinder area. I wouldn’t use it for coffee. It’s easy to use (pretty much throw stuff in, put lid on, and press) but the trade off is the mess it makes. For how often I will use it for spices, which is sporadically, I decided to keep it, but wouldn’t use it for something I’d grind every day, like coffee.

Capable, but flawed

PRO: Very easy to use; effective grinder.
CON: The unit is lightweight, which makes keeping the cord aligned with it's recess a bit of a problem. This results in the grinder not sitting square unless you use two hands and pay attention. Not a big deal. A more significant flaw is that the cap has a number of recesses in it that collect powder and make it difficult to clean. If there is any oil content to what you're grinding, it can make it next to impossible to get totally clean even using a toothpick. Finally, and this was the showstopper for me, the cap does not fit tightly. While grinding, powder escapes in the gap between the cap and the body of the grinder. It also accumulates on the 'ledge' of the body and subsequently spills on the working surface when you remove the cap. I bought this unit to grind dried super hot chiles into powder so I could avoid 'contaminating' my regular spice grinder. Super hot chile dust in the air and on the counter is not fun. Returned for credit. I'll spend a few bucks more and get one with a better design.

Compact, quiet, and does the job

Completely acceptable. I'm pleased that it's small and operates fairly quietly. Working in multiple batches, I was able to grind an entire bag of beans in a matter about 10 minutes without any problems. The coffee came out with a consistent fine texture. It is a little messy, so be careful not to release pressure on the lid before you're done grinding, and maybe have something underneath to catch spills when you remove the lid to empty it. If you want a perfectly engineered lid with no mess, go for the more expensive model. As someone who only needs it for when I accidentally buy whole beans, this does the job and I'm happy with it. My only disappointment was that it didn't come with a little brush to get the ground coffee out of the machine when you're done grinding. I used my fingers, but it would be more civilized to have a brush. Four stars because of the messy aspect and lack of brush, but it's a solid 4 stars and I will definitely recommend to anyone who, like me, just needs it once in a while.

I use this to grind up cannabis. Some of the sift will get into the body of the grinder. Otherwise it grinds up bud really well. The touch activation is nice. I also love the wide lid. It's really ergonomic and I can fit a larger scoop in the reservoir or tap some out into a paper. I really recommend this grinder to coffee and cannabis lovers.
