Back in the late 1980s, Cuisinart had a line of pots and pans that were stainless steel with a copper core. Made in France, they had a mirror finish and were free of any non-stick coatings. They've treated me well over the years, but you have to be careful to always clean them gently to preserve their appearance. No Brillo pads or anything similarly harsh.

This line of pots and pans from AmazonBasics is made in China. They have a similar mirror-finish stainless steel but with a markedly less expensive aluminum core. The differences in practice between copper and aluminum core products are likely to be minimal to the home cook (and almost as minimal to a line chef). The biggest issue is that the copper core will respond more rapidly to temperature changes, so if you have an electric stove, you certainly don't need to care.

The Cuisinart line had welded handles. These use rivets instead. I prefer welding since rivets can often get food particles stuck around the insertion points. But again, that's a cost saving maneuver for these pots.

The glass top here is vented and you'll have to use your judgment as to whether you prefer vented vs non-vented lids.

This particular model is similar to the Sauteuse pan from Le Creuset - sloping sides with a large surface area good for reductions, searing, sautéing, braising, and frying. You can ignore the sloping sides entirely and just use it you would a regular 3 quart pot. Weighing in at about 2 1/2 pounds (plus another 3/4 pound for the lid), this pot has a reasonable weight when in use (unlike Le Creuset, which folks tend to sell off as they age due to handling difficulties).

Left white spots on the inner bottom after just boiling water

I've contacted customer service about the problem of white spots/stains on the inner bottom after just boiling water. They suggested me this is ABNORMAL and suggested the replacement pot will free of this issue. Got the replacement, rinsed with warm soap water, and put it on the stove for a test. Unfortunately, the inner bottom of the pot shown numerous white spots after boiling water. There is some serious design of this pot. Not recommend.

LOVE this saucepan! Nothing sticks, it washes beautifully! The only thing is you will see water spots in bottom after it's washed and dried but from what I've read, that's normal with stainless steel. It can be cleaned but not an issue for me and not something I want to do between uses! It's great quality and I highly recommend! Great for a smooth cooktop!

I use this pan for cooking rice. First put a lot of water in the pan. Then add some rice. Bring it to a boil. Turn the heat to low. Let it simmer. Drain the rice. I have been using the pot for a while now and it works well. There is nothing to clean up since there is still a fair amount of water in the pan when I empty it into a strainer. Produces wonderful basmati rice - the only kind that survives this mistreatment. So I am entirely satisfied with the produce. If you do more complicated cooking I would expect it does the job but I have no idea. Thus I have no idea about easy to clean or warmth.

quality control issues -- dented pot

Ours came with a dent that can be felt on the bottom surface, which is thus not fully flat. The dent is not part of the logo, so there are quality control issues. Otherwise it feels sturdy and water boils in a reasonable amount of time. We returned it, though.
