I ordered two of these cable so I wouldn't have to carry my OEM charger and cable around. Plugged in my Pixel it charged for a couple of seconds then stopped and the USBC-phone side connector got screaming hot. This is the third (and first amazon basics) USB-C cable I have purchased off of amazon, none of them work properly with the Pixel or Note 8 , stick with OEM cables its worth paying more at Google/ Samsung to not fry your phone.

I really want to give this product 5 stars, but I cant. I've had two of these cables for 2 years and they've never let me down once.... until last night. I woke up to the smell of smoke and found my cable like this. Nothing was plugged into it, the cable was just in the charger plug how it sits normally. I have no idea what could have caused this but I was scared that if I wasn't awake or home when this happened it could have caused far more damage. I wanted to give it 5 stars. It has been a phenomenal cable for 2 years, but until last night, I'm scared to purchase another one. They have been great cables but I don't like having a fire hazard in my house. It's still getting 2 stars for being phenomenal cables up until this point.

Doesn't work on SSD devices

I've had this item for a little over a year and used it to attach my Samsung T5 500GB SSD to my Mac. Everything seemed to work okay, but I kept noticing Xcode (an Apple Integrated Development Environment) kept hanging. I thought the hands must have something to do with that software, so I spent a lot of time trying to reinstall software, and even the macOS to no avail. It was only just now that I realized the hangs were due to this cable. If I removed the cable and used another one, Xcode never hangs again. Too late now to return the product and get a refund, but this cable has Amazon's name on it, and it's operational quality really sucks.

Needed some extra charging cords for the new iPad Pro 11"

This will work both as charging cords and as data cords when connected to my old MacBook Pro's USB port. The nice thing is that you can use these to charge with any standard USB charging cube, and the cord that comes with the new iPad is USB-C on both ends, so it only works with the charging cube that Apple supplies with the new iPad. I didn’t want to buy a whole bunch of new USB-C charging cubes! This solves that problem! I tested the cord out and does work with the iPad.

Works great to transfer data with Target Disk Mode (ONLY FOR CERTAIN MACBOOK PROS)

This is a good-quality cable. The build quality is sturdy, and it's helpfully labelled with "SS 10" on one end connector (see photo), so you know USB SuperSpeed+ transfer mode is supported, i.e., 10 Gbit/s.

You can use this cable to transfer data between an old MacBook Pro and a new MacBook Pro using Target Disk Mode. The transfer speed is indeed very good between supported computers. However, that leads us to a caveat regarding use of this cable...

There are two versions of TDM: "Thunderbolt" and "USB". THIS CABLE CAN ONLY BE USED FOR THE "USB" VERSION OF TARGET DISK MODE. Also, USB TARGET DISK MODE *ONLY* WORKS BETWEEN MACBOOK PROS FROM 2016 AND NEWER. If both machines are from 2016 or newer, then you CAN use this cable for TDM. (That's not the fault of this cable -- rather, it's just how Apple implemented TDM over the years.)

Otherwise, if you're connecting a new MacBook Pro to an older MBP (2015 and previous) then you need to use the Thunderbolt version of Target Disk Mode. For that you can use an Apple MMEL2AM/A, Thunderbolt 3 (Usb-C) To 2 Adapter combined with an Apple Thunderbolt Cable, 0.5-Meter (MD862LL/A) , all of which which Amazon sells.

Overall I really like this cable and would definitely buy it again. Plus, it's available in white to match the rest the cables plugged into my Mac. :)

This cable is not USB 3.1 compliant

It may push 3.1 speeds across it's 4 active contacts on the USB A side, but USB 3.0+ spec calls for 7 contacts. I was getting this to replace a cable for a USB 3.1 hub which is spec compliant and the cable did not work. When I checked the Type C and USB A ends, I was surprised (and disappointed) that this cable does not meet USB 3.0+ specification because the A end is not compliant.

Great for Using Target Disk Mode on a Retina MacBook!

Perfect for Retina MacBook. This cable is the one you are looking for to use Target Disk Mode on the new 12" retina MacBook. When rebooted while holding "T" your MacBook will enter Target Disk Mode and can be connected via USB to another Mac and mounts as a drive on the desktop. This makes transferring files to/from the MacBook very simple. Speeds are great, at full USB-3 speed. I tried several cables with these connectors and this is the ONE that is standards compliant and works perfectly. It will also allow the rMB to charge from a standard USB 2.4A charger, at 12 watts. This will charge very slowly, but is great in a pinch or when you really need to pack light.

Nachdem mehrere billig china Kabel immer nur 2-3 Monate durchgehalten haben, wollte ich mal eine ordentliche Lösung haben. Ich bin Softwareentwickler für Android und Habe den ganzen Tag am Arbeitsplatz mein Handy am Laptop angeschlossen und Entwickle und teste meine Apps direkt auf dem Handy. Meistens haben die Kabel die ich benutze nach einiger Zeit innere Brüche und die Verbindung bricht dauernd ab.

Ich habe dieses Kabel ausgesucht weil es zwei von Amazon kommt (keine billige china-produktion ist) und weil es verspricht schnelle Datenübertragung zu ermöglichen.

Wenn ich eine Videodatei von meinem Handy mittels "adb pull" herunterlade habe ich eine Erhöhung der Datenrate von etwa 16 MB/s auf etwa 30 bis 38 MB/s. Der Unterschied zwischen Testläufen ist mit diesem Kabel extrem. Im vergleich zu einem billig Kabel sieht es zwar nach einer Beschleunigung über das doppelte hinaus aus, aber mit den versprochenen 10 Gbit/sekunde hat das nicht viel zu tun. (Mathematisch würden 10Gigabit/sekunde 1280 MB/s entsprechen) Auch unter der Annahme das beide Geräte (Laptop und Handy) nur USB 3.0 mit 5 Gigabit/sekunde beherrschen sollte die Messung rechnerisch 680 MB/s ergeben. Natürlich können hier auch andere Faktoren eine Rolle spielen, dennoch hätte ich mir etwas mehr als 300 Megabit / sekunde erhofft.

Das Kabel hat etwa den doppelten Durchmesser im vergleich zu anderen USB Kabeln auf meinem Tisch und ist bei weitem nicht so flexibel. Wenn ich mein Handy irgendwo auf dem Tisch ablege mit angeschlossenem Kabel zieht das Kabel mein Handy regelrecht weg und ich kann mein Handy nicht einfach irgendwo ablegen. Das KAbel lässt sich nur schwer biegen und ist sicherlich nicht geeignet täglich mehrmals für den Transport im Rucksack oder Handtasche aufgerollt zu werden. Es ähnelt eher einem draht Kleiderbügel. Dies lässt vermuten das im Kabelinneren eher starre Drähte benutzt wurden statt Litzen.

Sogar wenn das Kabel selbst länger durchhalten sollte als dünne flexible billig kabel aus china, bin ich mir sicher das die Abnutzung an den USB Buchsen am Handy und am Laptop mit diesem Kabel höher sein wird. Es werden alle Bewegungen direkt an die Buchsen übertragen.

Why is it so hard to just get a cable to charge your phone? There is just too much choice, a lot of the 3rd party no name cables seem good value, but the reviews just aren't that great. The branded cables are overpriced. Luckily, Amazon are to the rescue with an Amazon Basics cable. My number one fear of any cable or charger I buy is that it'll fry my device or burn my house down whilst I sleep, I trust Amazon to provide a product that won't do that. The cable is well built, reliable and not expensive.

I use this to charge my phone at work from my PC and it does that job well. 0.9m is the perfect length to reach from the back of my docking station to the phone in front of it.

I purchased this to connect my Pixel2 phone to my computer because the cable it came with is usb-c to usb-c. It works well and charges the phone properly. However, the cable is quite thick compared to every other usb cable I've ever owned. I think it was a little over-engineered!

Better than expected - underrated name for a good product

Not had it for long - only 2 days but from the outset a few key qualities stand out:

1. Fast charging - able to charge my note 10+ at +1%/minute, using the fastest charging power bank - easyacc 4 port - Green Port: DC 5-6V/3A spec, which shows very good wires used for charge conduction.
2. Fastest data transfer - at 10gbp/sec, faster than most wires which is 5gbp/sec (2nd best) - thus ideal for transferring things or supporting UHD monitoring.
3. Sturdy cable - not fully tested due to only have it for 2 days and is not braided however the connection points appear quite think and robust so it at least appears to be quite durable.

Overall, I do believe the name amazon 'basics' is underrated as the item is relative cheap but does many things - as summarized above better than other third party USB-C items - I recommend reading over the item description and trying it out yourself to compare - if the quality is what you expected there is always the (responsibly) return option :).
