The first two bags of this were delicious, and this would have been a 5 star review if it weren't for the third bag. The roasting/packaging quality control seems to be very hit or miss, as the third bag was awful. I opened it up and first noticed a smell that can best be described as dry black-eyed peas. I figured I'd give it a try anyway, though, as sometimes the smell is different than what you taste (the Sumatran is a good example).
I shouldn't have done it. The coffee smelled and tasted like boiled dirt, and that's not an exaggeration. I've had bad coffee before, but it still tasted like coffee.
tl;dr: If you want to roll the dice, I'd buy it, as when it's roasted right it's really good.

This is, indeed, a “light”-er roast. Probably roasted between 9 1/2-10 1/2 minutes. Not oily, no hint of roasty aroma. Smells like coffee, not a fire pit.
I brewed this on my Bonavita 1800. 40grams coffee, ground for drip, 640ml filtered water. Not much evidence of degassing during the bloom (see dating comment above).
Coffee aromas of tangerine and roasted almond. Nice full body/mouth feel and slightly dry finish. Tastes savory and floral, leather and hibiscus and a caramel sweetness. The flavors are not clean and they are slightly muted overall.
This coffee is balanced and unimposing. At the current price, this is right in line with most store bought brands. Yet, I cannot find enough decent first-crack coffees at the store to keep my interest. As well, I’m not always interested in paying the local roasters whole bean price for my morning brew. This coffee is a great compromise of quality and price. Distinct enough to enjoy but budget friendly. This coffee is well worth the price for anyone looking for a cost-effective online coffee option.

First impression: This whole bean coffee came with a “Best By” date of 6 months from now, instead of a “Roasted On” date. As an caffè crema (expresso shot and heavy cream) :
Taste mild acidity, complex, medium body, chocolate.
As an americano with heavy cream:
Taste comes out to be low acidity, juice, a well rounded body, hints of chocolate.
Beans where not oily which is to be expected from not being a dark roast.
I for the most part the description of the coffee of juice, complex, and notes of chocolate are accurate depending on brewing method used. I will give a try as a poor over method later and update.
Package has experation date though sadly no roast date added.

Good bean for the cost

I am going to review this bean as it tastes by brewing method to try to get the different flavors profiles. For the most part I drink my drinks with heavy cream (sometimes called double cream). The reasoning for this is I want the fat in the cream to hold the flavor of the coffee on my tongue long. As a side effects it does mellow out the acidity of the bean. I coming off of a Guatemala roast to order bean (boca java Guatemalan adventure) so that's what I been having the past week.By ldglance on January 19, 2018
