Needless to say, I won’t continue the series.
That being said, I do read romance for the escapism, so I can’t complain about much. The external conflict was predictable but framed in such a way that did a lot of the world-building, so I was interested to see where it went. But otherwise, the dudes were hot and Amber has plenty of her own agency. Though I’m not really into the “love at first sight” trope, this paranormal romance world seems to be putting a unique spin on it. I’m intrigued to see where this shared world series will go, so I’ve already snagged the next one to read soon.
I've read other books from this series totally out of order, or well which book was published first. They all read as standalones, but it was awesome to read the book that started everything.
The characters were funny and easy to relate to. The pace was a wee bit fast for me, but since the story was so good, I had no problem with that.
I wish I could give half stars, as I would have ended on 4½, but I am closer to 5 than 4 for sure.
I found myself having a really hard time putting the book down. It was just that good.
I have already read another book in this series by Candace Wondrak which made me want to read all of them from the beginning so I am excited to read the next installment by a different author.

Amber is miserable because she has loved her best friend since they met and they are living and working together and she doesn’t want to ruin anything by telling him how she feels. She’s also worried they’ll have to sell up and she’ll never really see him again.
Then Julian decides to cast a spell on the Pumpkin Spice Latte that Amber drinks and everything goes haywire.
It’s a very straight forward plot, based on nice world building. The characters are sweet and endearing and there is no angst. It’s light and sweet and a little saucy. The book is complete escapism and is a very fast read.
