Ambient Light is well-written, fast paced, mystery with a great storyline. The author ambitiously tackles the challenge of changing perspective across a number of chapters in the book, giving us overlapping views of critical scenes from the perspectives of different characters. Perhaps the only blemish on this entertaining mystery for me, is that some of the key scenes seemed to end too soon. They left me wishing that the author had drawn out those scenes more, thus ramping up the tension and creating even more drama and intrigue for her readers. However, apart from that, Ambient Light was an entertaining ride, and I look forward to more of Lorraine Adair's Angel McKenzie Mysteries in the future.
Abduction, in any form or ramification, is a sign of weakness, not a sign strength. But go tell that to a mad man, a twisted soul, or a possessed man. Only the devil can plan and inflict such ignominy on another soul. This story is about one of the few who suffered this fate and live to tell it. Who knows how many more are today wallowing in it, who will never be found. Men who perform these madness never plan to be found out. They would rather kill their victims than allow themselves, and their inhuman acts to be discovered.
We thank God for those who lived this experience and survived it, and we pray for those who are still in bondage, those who can still be found, and especially for those for which it already too late. We cannot stop the devil at his best, but we can pray for God’s protection and intervention against the whiles of the evil one. Angel was a lucky girl. Stevens is demented!
The way she scaled her abductor should be a lesson to all women. Women should always remember never to be afraid of their abductors, keep a cool head, plan and pray. God never fails. I enjoyed this read.
I thought the violence was well portrayed. It was horrible, but never gory. Adair allows you to recognize the antogonist's twisted mind without having to personally witness his sick and demented acts.
All in all, I thought it was a fun read. The suspense is just right, but not enough to cause nightmares. And I was left with a real affection for the characters so that I hope to read about them again in the next book.
