Ten-year-old Amelia arrives at her grandparents’ home to spend the summer and makes a wish. It’s not a selfish wish. Instead, it’s a wish that others will feel better, be happy, find a job, not be lonely. She befriends Red, the neighborhood stray, an old Irish setter, and together, through hard work and determination, she discovers the real meaning of magic.
Ms. Haddock is a born-and-bred Texan with an exceptional gift of memory and a love for small town America. She brings the early 1950s to life, reminding us of the games we played, the cars we drove, sharing chores, eating meals together as a family, looking out for friends and neighbors. It’s a feel-good story for any age.
Amelia has a meaningful relationship with her grandparents, the garden, the neighborhood and a stray dog. But most importantly, she has a rare and special gift -- imagination.
Do you believe in magic? Amelia does. Read and find out if the magic is real.
