It is actually a well written novel and overall I thought it was ok. I think due to it being of a dystopia genre, which isn't my usual type of read, I probably didn't enjoy it as much as fans of this genre.
This unique concept is both, a refreshing take on the tired time-travel narrative, and incredibly thought-provoking. For a new author, H.M. Lynn handles a the carefully crafted characters, who are rich in detail and wholly convincing, and the painstakingly detail world like a seasoned pro. The book is fully of so many ideas, yet never feels crowed or weighed down by them. The story which is complex and deeply engaging without being convoluted and confusing zips along at a good pace, never leaving you feeling like anything has been glossed over, while encourage swift reading as the twists and turns unfold.
Emelia, the main protagonist, is a likeable character who it is easy to empathise with. Alongside her are small cast of character, yet each feels so substantial it is easy to feel like there are more.
Set in an Orwellian dystopia, this is a story about family, love and loss, with action and social commentary thrown in for good measure.
An outstanding read.
I'd love to read a follow up to Amendments, or anything else from this talented author, and can highly recommend the book.
