Unfortunately I purchased a bunch of these shirts, had them modified at a tailor, and then tried one on only to realize the fabric had been changed. The new fabric gives my skin an itchy reaction. I can’t wear them against my skin for more than a few seconds without a reaction. I got a return authorization and sent them back, but the seller would not issue a refund because I had modified them. So now I’m out $72 with nothing to show for it.
Don’t be fooled by this cheap knock-off fabric. If you want the original fit and fabric that Dov invented for American Apparel, that shirt is now available from a new supplier called Los Angeles Apparel.
I have worn the old shirt once a week for probably 5 years. It is still in perfect condition. I even wore it through my entire pregnancy (up to the day my son was born.) it never stretched out of shape or anything. I am upset that they have hanged their formula so drastically. The fabric feels thicker than the old shirt and is obviously not the same quality. I am very sad because I thought I would be able to have more of my favorite shirt, but I will just have to keep looking.
These are the distinctions it has from the old AmAp shirts:
Very Thin and feel like a scratchy polyester, not nearly as soft
Colors are lighter
I do not expect these to hold up like the old ones have
It's just a shame since this is the only shirt i wore in highschool and college. whatever. nothing matters anyway.
I love the subtle texture and color variation, it elevates them beyond a plain undershirt.
They do pill and have a few runs in them after 6+ months of wear, but for $15 or less per shirt, I'm very happy.

A shame, since the original American Apparel Tri-Blends were so great.
