Obviously, nothing made of fabric is going to be indestructible - if you want that you're going to need rubber or plastic or some carbon-kevlar reinforced spaceman material. Happily, it's always the seams that fail with these toys, and once all the stuffing has been removed our dog is happy to continue to enjoy the pelt. They seem to be exceptionally sturdy and that's great.
Based on our success with squirrel, we've also tried rabbit, beaver, and hedgehog. Hedgehog gave it up pretty quickly, and after some initial enjoyment beaver seems to have been dismissed. Rabbit is doing well however and we're now in month three with rabbit looking as good as new. Unlike squirrel which is invariably targeted for immediate destruction, our dog seems totally content to play fetch with rabbit and prance around with rabbit in her mouth. I think squirrel will always have a place at home - there will surely be another - but rabbit is making a strong case for itself as well.
When I adopted a kitten over two years ago, the only things he wanted to do were: run, jump and bite... a little hellion, this one (good thing he makes me laugh!). After perusing many animal behavior sites, I was still at a loss as to what to do apart from adopting another cat for him to play with.
Soooooo... while at a large department store, shopping for interesting toys to distract him, I decided to check out the dog toy aisle and see if there would be anything there of interest to him.
Behold: the big squirrel made by the AKC! They are very life-like for a stuffed toy, come in various sizes, and the large one was about his size at eight weeks, making a perfect wrestling companion.
My arms were saved. Now, when my cat gets "that look in his eye," I reach for "Mr. Squirrel" and his playful aggression is easily redirected.
I recently purchased a second one because, even though it is very well made, sturdy and durable, no stuffed toy is going to stand up to almost three years of cat wrestling. I'm amazed it has lasted as long as it has.
My cat has other stuffed toys, but this is the only one that I find at the foot of the bed in the morning and the only one he drags from room to room. It's also the only toy that he'll eye from across the room and pounce on with full force. I don't know how well it works for dogs, but this cat owner thinks it's a lifesaver and I'd highly recommend it.
I took this toy out of the Amazon package causing this toys characteristic low honk which instantly got my dog's attention from across the house. He's a German Shepard/Labrador mix and after some impatient waiting I let him grab it from my hands.
No less than an instant later, I heard a loud crack and the squeaker was destroyed. In fact, as I write this product review he's found a way to pull the plastic squeaker out of the body of the toy itself.

I'm not so sure about this one. You might have better luck getting a stuffed toy from the dollar store.
As I say, the squirrel looks like it could stand up to a fair amount of chewing but, alas, we shall never know. Without its squeak, the toy has lost its magic.
I have five small dogs. Yorkie and poodles and they all decided this
is the sexiest rabbit they can lay their paws on. We have fights over this
so I had to buy each on their own. And they are loyal to their rabbit. They do
not touch each others and they carry theirs where they choose to sleep or whatever.
Keeps them busy. LOL
1. It is quality made. He has had this toy for a few months now, and not a stitch has come out. He is a small Yorkie though about 4 lbs, but he can tear some damn toys up. He has gone through so many toys, and this one has held up. he does rather fancy chewing the ears, and this rabbit still looks brand new.
2. Of course as stated he loves the squeak it makes. Its not to loud, but just enough for entertainment.
Overall this is a good buy. This is a very quality made toy, and my pup loves it.
