Nice, but not awesome

Nice, but not awesome
Tea is a very personal thing and the taste is subjective. I found the tea pleasant, almost an afternoon tea. It's not as robust (or strong) as some traditional British suppliers. The tea does appear to have more stems in it, which would suggest more mechanization is employed.

I don't see any stems or twigs like the previous reviews. All I see is dried green leaves, smell nice. The taste is clean, no bitterness whatsoever. I'm glad to find this green tea, grown in USA without pesticides, which doesn't upset my tummy like the imported Jasmine green tea.

If you google "imported tea and pesticides", you'll find reports done by CBC entitled "Strange Brew". Here's an excerpt: "Using an accredited lab, CBC used the testing method employed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to test pesticides. Half of the teas tested contained pesticide residues above the allowable limits in Canada. And eight of the 10 brands tested contained multiple chemicals, with one brand containing residues of 22 different pesticides. Another report: "Greenpeace investigators found: Even some of the most famous and expensive teas sold under popular brands -- like Wuyutai, Tenfu and Eight Horses -- contained pesticides that are banned in China or even worldwide. Also an article "What's in your green tea?" about a woman with breast cancer: "But six months later - during which time she had been eating her organic diet and drinking green tea-she was rocked by the results of another blood test: Her DDT levels had risen to 1.1 parts per billion ... she had the tea tested and discovered that it was, indeed, contaminated."

Since I didn't see the organic label on this tea, I wrote to the company, and received this info. from Charleston Plantation, SC, where the tea was grown "We do not use any pesticides on our tea plants, the only reason we are not considered organic is because we use a nitrogen fertilizer on our plants. Please visit our website at charlestonteaplantation.com and I hope you will be able to visit us in the future to see how tea is made!"

I would recommend the Charleston Breakfast Tea as a honey/lemon tea. This tea has some slight note of citrus, so I would probably not recommend this as a milk/cream tea. It is not "malty" like Irish/English Breakfast tea. So anyone expecting something like Assam will be disappointed. The taste is clear and bright. I disagree with reviewer comparisons with Lipton's Tea. This has none of the jagged edges and cheap, harsh flavors of Lipton's Tea. The color is "whiskey" after the recommended 4 minutes of steeping. This tea is not supposed to be darker, and over-steeping, for a dark color, will result in a bitter taste.
To brew/steep this tea I followed basic instructions for Breakfast Tea: Bring water to a full boil, then let it cool for about 40 seconds. Steep the leaves for no more than 4 minutes (more time and the tea will develop a harsh, bitter taste) Strain out the leaves. Enjoy! I will purchase this tea again. I have been pleased to discover a USA grown Black tea...with a promise of "no pesticides or herbicides".

My new favorite tea! I was excited to find an American grown product and was more than happy with the quality. I like my tea strong & without cream or sweeteners and this one stands up to that level of scrutiny- never bitter, never chalky, this green tea has a smooth, rich taste that you won’t find elsewhere in a green tea. Must be that sweet Charleston humidity~

This is good tea grown in America. You can even tour the plantation and taste most of their teas at their gift shop. Tea gets it’s flavor from it’s environment so you won’t find tea like this anywhere else. This one is a good smooth breakfast tea. I enjoy it by itself but I admit my favorite way is to mix a pinch of strong Assam leaves in with it. Something about these two teas mixed together hits a lot of the right notes for me. Plain or mixed with a pinch of Assam it is great tea and I am back for more.

In my case for green tea, normally it is a matter of avoiding things I don't like. However this tea was very pleasant starting with opening the tin. It had a nice aroma and a deep color, although the leaves are fairly fine. The tea developed a moderate amber color. The taste is slightly sweet, so I had used too much sweeter for this tea the first time. The taste is full bodied without any grassiness or astringency. I did not use full boiling water, but rather a temperature more like 185F, so a bit hot for green tea.

I drink mostly Chinese tea, and I have certain preferences in how tea should taste.

I was skeptical but wanted to give this a try. I was pleasantly surprise how drinkable this tea is. I drink it straight with no milk or sugar.

This is way better than supermarket tea.
