And before the zombie apocalypse, this little gem of an oven will brighten your life. Want cookies but don't want to heat up the house during the scorching summer? Try the solar oven. I've also boiled pasta, baked bread, and baked delicious garlic knot rolls. For cookies, you can stack the racks 3 high, but they just don't cook as well underneath. For the heat loss that can occur when you open the door, I recommend one rack at a time. It gets done much faster. For me the time different was maybe 5 minutes more than a conventional oven at most.
Pasta took a long time, but I didn't let the water boil before dumping it in. On baking bread, you may have to wipe the glass door free of moisture occasionally, as the steam will cause a temperature drop. I also recommend you use the darkest bread pans you've got.
On the oven itself, if you're baking anything complex, like bread, you've got to watch the sky for clouds. Anything blocking the sun for too long and you'll have a drop in temperature. It's rated to reach 360-400 degrees in ideal conditions. So far I've only seen it up to 350, but I usually baked in the afternoon. I've heard it works very well in the winter too, but I've yet to be able to try it. I'll certainly update when I do.Read more ›
1. The internal cooking chamber is larger, so you can now use a full sized (9 X 13) cake pan.
2. The tracking "eyes" make it much easier to adjust to the Sun.
3. The adjusting leg is now a "T" which makes the oven more stable.
4. The CD that comes with the oven has Cook'n Recipe Software installed. All American Sun Oven w/Dehydrating and Accesories Package
This year 2013, I decided to get it as a birthday present. They came up with a newer model (the chamber is bigger, has the T' support at the back and tracking eyes). The new model itself sells for $294, but with this package, you get additional accessories (dehydrating, 2 pots, etc.) for $298, is a great deal!
Anyway, today, I had my first meal prepared using the sunoven (I prepared lentils stew) and it came out perfect! I was really worried that I will have the same problem that other reviews stated about having the plasticy smell/taste, but am glad to say that I did not have the same experience. Just follow the initial set-up guide as included in the box and you wont have any problems.
I am looking forward cooking in this sun oven for yearsss to come. For those who are looking into purchasing a solar oven, I would highly suggest this one, Made in the USA and high quality materials!
I gave the oven 3 stars due to its less than stellar craftsmanship. This was a brand new oven. The chamber had dented spots. Couple screws were not screwed in. Dry glue was sticking out. Upon the first use, the thermometer glass cracked all the way. After a week, the tee stand’s screw was coming loose. One would think for about $300, the quality would be better.
I also disagree with what the manufacture claimed to be “totally safe – no danger of fire!” The first time I used it, I set it on the floor of a wooden deck. Half hour later I went to check. I noticed a bit of smoke smell. Then I saw smoke rising from the deck railing. As it turned out, the reflector was reflecting the sun directly onto the railing. I’m sure it would have caught fire given more time.
The glass has been secured now, and the crinkles don't seem to affect performance, so we'll see how it holds up. It cooks well, which is what I bought it for, and the included pots and pans are of good quality. So, almost a five, but not quite.

Super irritated that the CD sent with the oven was so invasive into my computer. I couldn't access recipes until I downloaded all kinds of garbage that I don't want on my computer. Read morePublished 11 hours ago by C. Lewis
