Very strange is right! It's some kind of weird cross between a professional session combo in the vein of The Ventures, with a prominent Italian flair. But the there are moments of Grateful Dead 60s style disintegration in almost every track, along with some regularly appearing moments of pure compelling Outsider joy. I should add that the the heavy fuzz is not only gorgeous, it's way over the top; it's performed by someone who knows how to play guitar very well. The musicianship ranks high. The strangeness ranks just as high. The recording/mastering quality is excellent: this is not a garage project. They go through beat changes in the rhythm section that the surf guitar is not in any way anchored to, and this gives it an odd Shaggs feel in places. There are a lot of questions here, some having to do with Italian B film, that only you, the listener, can answer. The interview on the liner is so straightforward, it only adds to the mystery, only adds to the head--scratching. Something about Marc Ribot that we're not sure has anything to do with project except in the conception of the musician.

This project has something to do with Italian B-Movies; I can't tell for sure if the musicians involved also worked on the original soundtracks. But these are definitely not soundtrack cuts from the movies themselves.

The only thing I can add, is that the front cover proudly announces this is Bad music with a capital 'B'. As some of you are aware Bad can mean something very good indeed. This will not let you down...IF you're one of those... I purchased it when there was only a single 1-star review saying it was recommended by a critic, but found it "overall very strange". I took the plunge and made a happy find.

If only every album I'd hoped was this whacked actually was.
