Robert Bloch is the true master of horror. This book is scary in the blood, guts, and gore sort of way but it will still have you jumping out of your seat if you read it late at night and someone taps you on your shoulder.

Despite the other reviews, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and have re-read it on several occasions. I do not think that the story line dragged and the characters were well-developed, I thought. I would like to see the book available on Kindle.

It was a good novel, the first I've read from Robert Bloch, and I enjoyed it immensely. A good melding of history and fiction. I was a little annoyed at the end that the heroine didn't do anything, she had to be saved. I know that it was a different time when this was written and obviously when it was set, but just on principle, if she's the main character she needs to do something at the end.
