American History X (BD)
Derek Vinyard is dangerous, a coiled fury of hate who leads a neo-Nazi gang. But time and events start to change him. He reassesses his ways while doing time for manslaughter and emerges from prison eager to keep his younger brother (Edward Furlong) from falling victim to the thug cycle of violence and payback. It may be too late. Weaving in and out of events past and present in Dereks life, American History X is revealing in its look at white-supremacist gangs and impassioned in its message that hatred and bigotry can be unlearned. Edward Norton (Fight Club, Pride and Glory) portrays Derek, giving a powerful, persuasive, Oscar®-nominated* performance.]]>

Despite the fact that this movie shows one of the most brutal murders I've ever seen on film called "curbing" (the act of making a person bite the curb, then stomping on the back of their head killing them. Definition generously provided by the www.UrbanDictionary.com), the bulk of the movie is split between Norton ascension up the ladder of a White Supremacist Organization, his time in jail and his time out of jail where he attempts to leave the group and help change his now racist brother before it is too late.
This is a disturbing film I think because it shows how people can make decisions that seem to make sense only to find out that life is more complicated than we often think. Highly recommended.
