I was able to obtain a copy of this book thanks to a contact I have close to Weingarten. A simply fact-check of the first 10 pages will even put the President's tweets to shame.

Weingarten allegedly is a part of a team which has been conspiring to bring down Ilhan Omar for over a year now. They have done so with lies, and half truths. BUYER BEWARE!

Juli 2019 auf seinem Twitter-Account vier demokratische Kongressabgeordnete, die er in Anlehnung an eine Äußerung von Senator John Kennedy als „apokalyptische Reiterinnen“ bezeichnete. Er tat dies aus gutem Grund, da sich Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib und Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez immer wieder mit linksradikalen Ansichten hervortaten.
Wie radikal diese Ansichten tatsächlich sind, untersucht Benjamin Weingarten in der hier zu besprechenden Arbeit am Beispiel von Ilhan Omar. Die Kongressabgeordnete aus Minnesota ist unter anderem durch ihre antisemitischen Stellungnahmen aufgefallen, für die sie von ihrer Partei und von den linksliberalen Medien aber nie richtig zur Verantwortung gezogen wurde. Für den Autor ist dies ein klarer Beleg für seine Kernthese, dass nämlich die Demokraten von linksradikalen Kräften übernommen werden. Omar repräsentiert diese linksradikalen Kräfte, welche die Demokratische Partei zunehmend in eine totalitäre Richtung ziehen, geradezu mustergültig.
Insofern bestätigt Weingartens Buch die eingangs zitierten Bemerkungen von Präsident Trump in einer höchst beachtlichen Weise. In einem Interview mit Frank Gaffney, welches am 04.03.2020 auf Secure Freedom Radio ausgestrahlt wurde, beklagte der Autor dann auch das Unvermögen des demokratischen Establishments, Omar und ihre Genossen in die Schranken zu verweisen. Er sagte:
„This only transpired because the democratic establishment caved to the progressive forces in their party as well as the media. That shows the power of those progressive forces who Ilhan Omar headlines, who she is a representative of, who she supports, and who I believe are not only going to transform that party: they are going to fully take it over.“

Weingarten beginnt seine gründlich dokumentierte Analyse mit einem Blick auf die Herkunft und die ideologischen Wurzeln von Omar. Sie wurde 1982 in eine Familie geboren, die dem diktatorischen Regime in Somalia treu und ergeben diente. Sie wuchs in einem privilegierten und behüteten Umfeld auf. Die enormen Härten, wie sie für ein Leben in der Dritten Welt typisch sind, blieben ihr zunächst erspart.
Es ist daher kaum überraschend, dass Omar nicht zu einer Kritikerin des Regimes erzogen wurde. Stattdessen wurde sie im Sinne der herrschenden Ideologie unterrichtet. Weingarten zitiert einen Artikel aus der New York Times, der 1977 erschien, um diese Ideologie näher zu charakterisieren:
„President Siad Barre has often insisted that Marx and Mohammed are not only compatible but also complimentary, that the religious asceticism of Islam can combine with the concept of mass discipline inherent in ‘scientific socialism’ to forge a strong national will and lift the country from the ranks of the 25 poorest nations.“
Die drei Grundpfeiler, welche diese Ideologie verbinden und zusammenhalten, können als antiwestlich, antiamerikanisch und antisemitisch beschrieben werden. An diesen drei Grundpfeilern ihrer islamistischen und marxistischen Weltanschauung hielt Omar auch fest, als sie zusammen mit ihrer Familie aus Somalia fliehen musste und schließlich nach Amerika gelangte. Hier reicherte sie ihr linkes Paradigma noch mit feministischen, multikulturellen und identitätspolitischen Theorien an.
Ihrer ideologischen Ausrichtung entsprechend hatte Omar auch keine Probleme damit, sich mit Angela Davis zu solidarisieren. Die unbelehrbare Kommunistin und verurteilte Verbrecherin wurde von Omar zu einem ihrer Vorbilder erklärt. Diese Zuneigung beruhte auf Gegenseitigkeit. So meinte Davis über den Wahlerfolg von Omar: "I am extremely proud that finally we've elected someone to Congress who speaks out … on behalf of all people who are oppressed.“ (John Hinderaker, Communist Murderers For Ilhan Omar?, Power Line, April 30, 2019)

Bevor sie den von Davis gefeierten Wahlsieg in Washington genießen konnte, baute sich Omar in ihrem Bundesstaat eine solide politische Basis auf. Hierbei setzte sie sich mit einer Mischung aus Kaltschnäuzigkeit und einem organisatorischem Geschick gegen die Vertreter des demokratischen Establishments durch. Die demographische Zusammensetzung ihres Wahldistriktes kam ihr dabei sehr zugute. Linke Studenten und muslimische Einwanderer aus ihrer alten Heimat bildeten das Rückgrat ihrer Wähler. Bei Weingarten heißt es:
„As DFL vice chair, the self-identified progressive Somali woman in her early thirties cemented her role as a conduit for the party to Somali immigrants and stood well-positioned to appeal to the disproportionately young constituents in her district, given the large college student population it encompasses. Both the Somali and college student constituencies would soon prove central to her future electoral triumphs.“
Ihr politischer Aufstieg bedeutete jedoch keinesfalls, dass sie sich den Werten und Idealen ihrer neuen Heimat annäherte, wie sie in der Unabhängigkeitserklärung und in der Verfassung der Vereinigten Staaten verankert sind. Für Omar bedeuten diese Gründungsdokumente, deren ideengeschichtliche Quellen im klassischen Liberalismus liegen, nichts. In ihrer linksradikalen und islamistischen Weltsicht sind die USA lediglich ein Symbol für Imperialismus und Unterdrückung. Sie betrachtet sich selbst als ein „Opfer“ dieser Unterdrückung.
Wie absurd dies ist, macht Weingarten unmissverständlich klar. Omar ist zweifellos die führende Vertreterin einer islamistisch-progressiven Achse. Dafür wurde sie von ihrer Partei nicht kritisiert, sondern bejubelt. Der Autor schreibt hierzu treffend:
„There has never been a U.S. representative so perfectly positioned at the intersection of these two ideologies aimed at undermining our country, who has garnered such widespread support, not only from her Squad but from the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) and the Democratic Party itself.“

Die Unterstützung durch ihre Partei- und Gesinnungsfreunde war Omar sogar dann sicher, als sie sich eindeutig judenfeindlich äußerte. Beispielsweise beklagte sie sich darüber, dass sich alles um die „Benjamins“ drehe. Was sie vom Judenstaat hält, ist gleichfalls bezeichnend: „Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.“
Es ist deshalb auch nicht überraschend, dass sie sich für die BDS-Bewegung einsetzt, die Israel durch Sanktionen in die Knie zwingen will. Wie Weingarten betont, resultieren solche Positionen nicht aus einer naiven Unbedachtheit heraus, sondern sie ergeben sich bewusst aus Omars ideologischen Überzeugungen: „Israel- and Jew-hatred is a key ingredient in the glue that holds the progressive-Islamist axis in the West together, an ‘intersectional’ alliance in which Rep. Omar sits at the center.“
Unterdessen erweist sich die demokratische Parteiführung als unfähig, den Antisemitismus von Omar zu verdammen. Ein diesbezüglicher Versuch, den die Demokraten des Establishments im Kongress unternahmen, scheiterte kläglich. Der Autor führt dazu aus:
„In early March 2019, establishment Democratic leaders rushed to draft a resolution condemning Rep. Omar’s anti-Semitism. Seemingly sensitive to the line they were walking, the party floated what appeared to be a trial balloon resolution condemning anti-Semitism, including the usage of the dual loyalty canard. However, the resolution refused to call out Rep. Omar by name, already indicating weakness. Yet even this language did not satisfy the Left. Within hours of the release of the draft resolution, at the urging of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), Speaker Pelosi vowed to expand its language to condemn not just anti-Semitism, but anti-Muslim expressions. Later, the language would widen still more — thereby further watering it down — to include condemnation of ‘bigotry against minorities’ as well. Leadership’s inability or unwillingness to maintain the original resolution stemmed from an uproar from party progressives, who commenced their pivot to the victimhood narrative, and played the race card, as they would later do in defense of the entire Squad against Speaker Pelosi…“
Auch Bret Stephens kommentierte das erbärmliche Verhalten der Progressiven vernichtend:
„It says something about the progressive movement today that it has no trouble denouncing Republican racism, real and alleged, every day of the week but has so much trouble calling out a naked anti-Semite in its own ranks. This is how progressivism becomes Corbynism. It’s how the left finds its own path toward legitimizing hate. It’s how self-declared anti-fascists develop their own forms of fascism.“ („Ilhan Omar Knows Exactly What She Is Doing“, The New York Times, March 7, 2019)

Die Kongressabgeordnete aus Minnesota hat auch keine Hemmungen, sich offen für islamistische Organisationen, Parteien und Regierungen stark zu machen. Sie trifft sich mit deren Repräsentanten, spricht auf deren Veranstaltungen und nimmt von ihnen großzügige Wahlkampfspenden entgegen. Weingarten also ably documents Omar’s long and disreputable relationship with foreign government figures, most with a shared affinity for Islamism. Diese intensiven Beziehungen sind umso bedenklicher, wenn man die unerfreuliche Tatsache berücksichtigt, dass Omar ausgerechnet dem Kongressausschuss angehört, der für die US-Außenpolitik zuständig ist. Man muss sich fragen, welche Interessen sie hier eigentlich vertritt.
Diese Frage stellt sich umso dringender, wenn man ihre antiamerikanische Grundhaltung in die Betrachtung einbezieht. Mehr als sichtbar wurde diese Grundhaltung im März 2019, als Omar auf einer Veranstaltung von CAIR eine Rede zu den Anschlägen vom 11. September 2001 hielt. Wörtlich sagte sie:
„Here’s the truth. Far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen and, frankly, I’m tired of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be tired of it. CAIR was founded after 9/11 because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties.“
Omar erklärt die amerikanischen Muslime also generell zu „Opfern“, als wenn die durch die US-Verfassung garantierten Grundrechte für diese Bevölkerungsgruppe nicht gelten würden. Die amerikanischen Muslime sind keine Bürger zweiter Klasse, was schon Omars eigene Erfolgsgeschichte hinreichend belegt. Ihre Formulierung „some people did something“ ist dagegen ein gezielter Schlag ins Gesicht von allen Terroropfern und von deren Angehörigen. Ihre Behauptung, CAIR sei anlässlich der Anschläge vom 11.09.2001 gegründet worden, ist einfach falsch. Die islamistische Organisation wurde viele Jahre zuvor aus der Taufe gehoben.

Laut Weingarten wäre die politische Karriere von Omar ohne die Präsidentschaft von Barack Obama nicht möglich gewesen. Es war Obama, der das ideologische Koordinatensystem derart weit nach links verschob, dass die radikalen Ansichten von Omar hoffähig wurden. „How Barack Obama Made Ilhan Omar Possible“ ist dann auch der Titel seines achten Kapitels. Mit Bezug auf die inzwischen publizierten Memoiren von Omar beschreibt Daniel Greenfield in seiner Rezension der Arbeit die Argumentation des Autors wie folgt:
„He describes her rise as “Obamaesque” and, indeed, the parallels are obvious. Both Omar and Obama share deliberately obscured backgrounds, familial hatred for America and embrace of radical politics. And these two elements, the lack of background information and a background built on hatred for this country, are intertwined. Omar and Obama both had to disguise their anti-American roots to realize their American political ambitions.
Obama and Omar both redefined their anti-American identities as quintessentially American. Omar’s upcoming memoir is her own attempt at repeating the trick Obama had pulled with Dreams From My Father.“ („The Book Ilhan Omar Doesn’t Want You to Read“, The Jewish Voice, 04/01/2020)
Gerade im Bereich der Außenpolitik werden die Parallelen zischen Obama und Omar besonders deutlich. Das eigentliche Kernstück von Obamas Außenpolitik bestand nämlich in einer Hinwendung zum iranischen Terrorregime und in einer Abwendung von Israel. Hierzu analysiert Weingarten ausgiebig:
„That President Obama harbored real animus towards Jews came through in the course of his lobbying for his central foreign policy ‘achievement,’ the Iran nuclear deal. In order to summon Jewish support for the disastrous pact, the administration’s Iran Deal echo chamber, led by the aforementioned Ben Rhodes, engaged in a campaign of vicious Jew-baiting. In accordance with rhetoric later employed by Rep. Omar, Team Obama tried to browbeat recalcitrant American Jews into backing the deal by raising the classically anti-Semitic dual loyalty canard. Meanwhile, in the years leading up to the Iran Deal, the Obama-controlled National Security Agency spied on Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Netanyahu, in contradiction of its stated policy not to surveil allied heads of state. Its main reason for doing so was to ensure Prime Minister Netanyahu would not scuttle the deal. Secretary Kerry threatened that Israel would be blamed if Congress opposed the Iran Deal. The Obama administration further demonstrated its malice towards Israel by leaking sensitive information about its military and intelligence activities and capabilities, including breaking the several decades-old practice of not publicly discussing Israel’s nuclear program.“

Es sind aber keineswegs nur die radikalen Positionen, die Omar in der Innen- und Außenpolitik vertritt, welche sie in einem schlechten Licht erscheinen lassen. Es ist auch ihre persönliche Integrität, die viele Fragen aufwirft. So ist der rechtliche Status ihrer früheren Ehen nicht unumstritten. Ihre jüngste Eheschließung, die der Autor in seinem Werk noch nicht berücksichtigen konnte, ist zumindest moralisch fragwürdig. Ein kritischer Beobachter bemerkte dazu sarkastisch:
„Ilhan Omar has married her political strategist, whom her campaign has paid hundreds of thousands of dollars. She denied dating him at first. But now that they're hitched she is being enriched by the money people donated to her campaign. Nice work if you can get it.“ (Matt Vespa, Why Ilhan Omar's New Marriage Looks Like an Ethics Nightmare, Townhall, March 12, 2020)
Die finanzielle Dimension, um die es hier geht, ist keine Kleinigkeit. In einem anderen Artikel kann man dazu lesen:
„Rep. Ilhan Omar is on track to pay the political firm founded by her new husband more than $1 million by the end of the year, campaign finance filings show.
In the first three months of this year, the Minnesota Democrat’s campaign paid the E Street Group $292,000 for advertising, fundraising, travel and other services, according to a federal campaign finance report filed Wednesday and obtained by the Star Tribune.
At that rate, the company would get $1.16 million from Omar’s campaign in 2020 — more than double the $523,000 it received for the whole of last year.“ (Tamar Lapin and Ebony Bowden, Ilhan Omar may pay husband’s political firm over $1M by end of year, New York Post, April 16, 2020)
Die ideologischen, politischen, persönlichen und finanziellen Machenschaften, in welche Omar verstrickt ist, sollten aus der konservativen Perspektive von Weingarten dafür sorgen, dass die demokratische Kongressabgeordnete von den Wählern abgestraft wird. Leider ist ihr Wahldistrikt derart strukturiert, dass dies eher unwahrscheinlich ist.
Insgesamt gesehen ist es dem Autor sehr gut gelungen, die politische und ideologische Gefahr aufzuzeigen, die von Omar und ihren Gefolgsleuten ausgeht. Der gleichen Meinung ist auch Leslie Eastman, der es jedoch schwer gefallen ist, sich mit Omar dermaßen ausführlich auseinanderzusetzen. Sie hofft deshalb darauf, dass sich Weingarten in einem neuen Buchprojekt mit anderen Politikern beschäftigen möge. In ihrer Besprechung heißt es:
„I give the book 4.5 stars out of 5. Weingarten packs a lot of useful information into straightforward and concise writing. He provides extensive quotes and offers plenty of links to the source material.
However, I found the subject matter highly disagreeable. Hopefully, Weingarten will find a more uplifting politician to write about for his next book.“ (Legal Insurrection, March 3, 2020)
Man kann die Rezensentin beruhigen, da sich Weingartens nächstes Buch mit der US-Politik gegenüber China befassen wird. Der Arbeitstitel lautet: „Unseen Revolution: The Bold Transformation of America’s China Policy“.
Bis zum Erscheinen dieses Buches (und natürlich auch darüber hinaus) ist „American Ingrate“ absolut empfehlenswert.
