Product Description

In small towns, and along America s back roads, treasures are waiting to be uncovered--valuable relics from our history that are hidden in junk piles, buried in barns and stacked in garages. It takes experts to find them...and turn rust to riches. Season One of AMERICAN PICKERS on HISTORY follows highly skilled pickers Mike Wolfe, owner of Antique Archaeology in Iowa, and his business partner Frank Fritz, as they hunt down objects with historical, collectible and pop culture value that have been long forgotten by their owners. From a vintage Harley to a one-of-a-kind Ferris wheel, each treasure hunt uncovers weird and wonderful Americana, offering a glimpse into a little-known side of the antiques business. Along the way, Mike and Frank meet people whose own stories open a window into American lives and history.

Review

Standing tall as one of the best reality shows on television...The idiom one man's trash is another man's treasure is the perfect fit for [this] highly entertaining History Channel series... --Pittsburgh Tribune Review

American Pickers will have you looking at old barns, dusty attics and cluttered yards in a whole new light. There's something magical about watching two grown men digging through heaps of garbage and coming away with a van full of vintage Americana. The downside? Hoarders will suddenly feel justified in hanging on to everything. --In Utah This Week

American Pickers, the terrific new reality series from History, is particularly good family viewing, giving young adults an understanding for hard work, self-reliant hustling, an appreciation for the old and the used and the forgotten things in this world, as well as for the quirky, independent citizen-individuals that populate this great land of ours, and most importantly, a hankering for some good old-fashioned American capitalism, in its purest form. I highly recommend American Pickers. --DVD Talk

From the moment I saw a teaser for American Pickers in December, I couldn't wait to see the first show. As a former flea market and yard sale addict, I miss the days when you really could find some amazing pieces of American history or pop culture at such venues. But those days were gone decades ago. So the thought that I could enjoy that vicariously through this show was pretty intriguing.

And it did not disappoint. American Pickers is everything I hoped for and more. Mike and Frank really know their stuff, and the people they come across in their travels are a breed of American which is quickly disappearing...along with the treasures they have hidden in barns, garages, old opera houses, and even tunnels!

One of the charming attributes of this series is the way Mike and Frank relate to each other. There are none of the insane ego dramas which plague-no, make that completely destroy-other reality shows. And over the time that these two have worked and traveled together, they have developed a language all their own-something I have experienced myself with my business partner. It's very real, and quite funny at times. (I especially like when the guys are freestylin').

The pieces of history they unearth are truly amazing! Bicycles, scooters, motorcycles and sidecars. Visible gas pumps, a giant advertisng character with a movable arm. And don't forget Frank's favorites...oil cans, big little, round, square and beautifully kept or beautifully rusted. They even found a man who collects BUILDINGS! That's right, he has a White Castle hamburger joint in his front yard, and the General Store he shopped in as a boy in his back yard-fully stocked, of course-along with quite a few more buildings from his home town.

I love this show.

For 10 minutes, I wasn't sure I could live with these guys for several episodes, but then I warmed up, and then I was hooked. Mike grew on me. I liked that the guys didn't seem to be too concerned with everything being politically correct or too nicey nicey. The best part is getting inside those houses, barns, sheds, and warehouses! What a treat, meeting all manner of old coots and proud junk owners and collectors/hoarders. Also the stuff is quintessentially American.
Nice series, I'll watch more.

I purchased this movie and was really happy with the content, packaging, arrival was early and if you are into the History Channel shows this is a good one to start with, you need to watch this movie. We love to watch them pick up junk and turn it into gold they are really good at picking up junk and reselling it to people who collect this stuff. Well done shows and I'll watch it more than once.

For anyone who has never seen this show it is a great way to learn about America's past with 2 very entertaining guys. They also show you a lot of great small towns in the US. The shipping was quick and convenient.

This show is not one of those shows that if you see one you've seen them all like so many reality shows on today. You never know about the people they meet, the places they find to pick and what you'll see and learn about. This is the one show my wife and I look forward to watching together each week. If you don't watch it you should.

Mike and Frank set the standard for dealers who know their wares and treat folks fairly. It's a good, balanced mix between what's happening at the shop with Danielle, and the actual picking (which, for me, is the most fun). I hope this series lasts for a long time, as these guys are a hoot!

Absolutely, positively one of the best shows on TV........PERIOD. I've become totally "hooked" on American Pickers from the very beginning. After watching it on satellite I knew I had to have it in my video library.

The adventures these guys go on literally "make my day" as another famous person says. I check daily to see if there are episodes on somewhere. Not only is the show well produced, but the Treasure Hunting Duo makes it as fun for the viewer as for themselves. I cannot count how many times they've found things while "picking" that take me back decades to my younger days. If you're wanting a fun, family-friendly, educational and interesting, this show is for you. I've already watched Season 1 multiple times, have purchased Season 2 and plan to own them all when all is said and done.

I don't know where these two find the warehouses, garages and backyards that they scour for junkyard treasures but they bring us some of the most lovable eccentric, amusing characters on TV. Mike and Frank share a truck as they wander from place to place climbing through barns, haggling with old timers, and looking to salvage rusting items for their shop. We learn some history, some old trading tricks and best of all the good natured bickering between Mike and Frank, who are sent on their journeys like modern Don Quixotes by Danielle, a good natured, resourceful, and heavily tattoed mother-figure to the quarrelsome boys.

An entertaining, informative, and thoroughly charming romp that leaves me feeling good time after time.
