“Roger Simon is among the many refugees fleeing blue state neoliberalism, and he’s written the best account of our generation’s greatest migration.”

“As a citizen of Tennessee, I can attest to the fact that there is a great migration happening from blue to red states. When people have had enough tyranny, they search for freedom elsewhere. This book captures a pivotal moment in time for our nation.”
-
John Rich, country music superstar and owner of Redneck Riviera Brand

“Roger’s analysis in American Refugees provides great evidence that America isn’t in some inevitable national decline, we’re just young. We’re going through our own version of adolescence as a nation.”

Vivek Ramaswamy,  Republican Presidential Candidate

A net exodus of Americans from blue to red states has been in progress for several years now. This is largely a southbound movement, and perhaps some migrants are "running from the cold up in New England," as the song goes. But mostly they are leaving states that are too far gone into woke socialism to recover anytime soon—in favor of states with more conservative governance.

The conventional wisdom, or fear, among red state locals is that these newcomers, despite having “voted with their feet,” will continue to vote for the same policies that ruined the states from which they are fleeing. Roger Simon argues that the reverse may be more accurate: blue-to-red migrants tend to be serious constitutional conservatives, and they might be the cavalry that rescues the red states from their own problems.

With the possible exception of Florida, the red states, too, are in trouble. Like California, long-term one-party rule has corrupted them, but in a different way. Their political leaders have become disconnected from the conservative values of their constituents. Migrants from blue states, however, are likely to be highly invested in saving the red states into which they are moving.

American Refugees is the story of how a culture clash precipitated a great blue state exodus, and what it means for the rest of America. Focusing particularly on Tennessee, Simon contends that only the red states can preserve the constitutional republic envisioned by the Founders. Only they can save America for our children and grandchildren. The struggle will be great, but the story will ultimately have a happy ending.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"When drought came to the prairie in the 1930s, thousands of Americans moved west to a better life in California. Ninety years later, their descendants are leaving in the wake of another disaster, this one more destructive than the Dust Bowl. Roger Simon is among the many refugees fleeing blue state neoliberalism, and he’s written the best account of our generation’s greatest migration.”

Tucker Carlson, Fired Fox News host

"As a citizen of Tennessee, I can attest to the fact that there is a great migration happening from blue to red states. When people have had enough tyranny, they search for freedom elsewhere. This book captures a pivotal moment in time for our nation."

John Rich, Country music superstar/owner of Redneck Riviera Brand

"I thought our family forever left behind a one-party state when my dad moved from China to America. I have, however, been living in a totalitarian-like environment these last few years in a zany New Jersey. Roger Simon’s entertaining and engaging book has prompted me to ask: Is there any room left for a Blue State refugee like me in Simon’s new home of Tennessee?"

Gordon Chang, author of China is Going to War

"The prescience, savvy, and insight Roger brings to his reporting shines in American Refugees. Roger is an indefatigable reporter who can identify and diagnose America’s deeper cultural problems with unique precision. Roger’s analysis in American Refugees provides great evidence that America isn’t in some inevitable national decline, we’re just young. We’re going through our own version of adolescence as a nation."

—Vivek Ramaswamy,  Republican Presidential Candidate

"With American Refugees, Roger Simon chronicles the biggest story of our lifetime: The massive exodus from Blue cities to Red regions is re-shaping not only our political landscape but also our society as a whole, as millions of Americans re-organize themselves into communities based on the values and virtues on which the greatest nation in world history was founded. Only a novelist and screenwriter of Roger Simon’s genius could write the new American epic while telling the story of one man’s journey to renew himself at the sources of American greatness."

Lee Smith, author of Plot Against the President

American refugees who’s moved from blue to red
As someone who Roger L.Simon interviewed in his book, I can tell you firsthand Roger did his homework to make this book coming from the viewpoint of people like myself who decided to become a refugee and move from blue California to red Tennessee. I highly recommend this reading to anyone thinking of making this type of move. It’s a serious matter to uproot your family from one state to another especially from the state that you were born and raised to. In the end it came down for me to give my children an opportunity to thrive and prosper as I saw it becoming very difficult for young people to make a living and contribute to society in California. Five stars to Roger L. Simon for writing this topic and really delving into the deeper issues of the WHY people are making the move. Kudos to you sir!

As a lifelong 'redster' in philosophy, with some slight deviation in my 20's and now living in red suburban Tennessee county, this was a fun and informative read. Am I a refugee? Perhaps. Having lived 55 of my 80 years back and forth between Michigan and New Jersey and landing in Tennessee in 1999 was a real treat. As Simon points out, a red state environment and atmosphere can help influence our migration to different mindset.

Simons causal and factual writing styles are on display as he weaves pithy and cleverly titled chapters, great people and places stories along with thoughtful incite. It all lead me to three main takeaways - all politics is local, get involved and the corruption is deep! Yet there is hope.

This book got me hooked on educating myself of what is going on in our world. I enjoy Roger Simon's column in the Epoch Times. A transplant myself, from California to Chattanooga, Tennessee made this read entertaining and informative.

Mr. Simon's book is short (215 pages) but very good. In a casual easily read style he details his odyssey from California and liberalism to Tennessee and traditional Americana. I encountered a few mistakes in the text but none that detracted from his messages.

A decade ago I urged my wife to join me and also move to the Volunteer State. When we took a vote, I lost 1-1 and thus we didn't take the step Mr. Simon did. My bride now admits she's sorry she did not give her blessing to a radical move such as this would have been. I've spent a life in Illinois as it's gone drastically downhill and will likely meet my Maker in the Prairie State.

Buy this pleasant book, take your time reading it, and then hire a moving company. Like the author, you won't be sorry.

If you’re looking for an in-depth analysis of the population exodus by specific state, this is it. It’s the book that put things in perspective for me. It’s destined to be a classic. I just finished reading Roger Simon’s American Refugees and found the book to address much of what is wrong with our country through conversations with numerous intelligent people who have decided to escape the radical changes in Blue States. The book is not just about mass migration but speaks to the significant changes in our country that have caused many to escape to a more sane environment. Roger’s own journey parallels many who are working to right what is wrong with our country. I highly recommend American refugees.

I have enjoyed Roger’s writing style for years in his column, but this is my first of his books that I have read. I was not disappointed! He writes like he is talking to an old friend in a relaxed casual manner. I have several friends that have left my “deep blue” Washington State for “Red” states, l but I still hold out with friends in my rural and “Red” slice of the Pacific Northwest. Roger is an excellent example of a “refugee”! His story is how he and his wife moved to Tennessee is search of the peace that comes with living among like minded conservative Americans. Their story is mostly joyful. They had planned ahead and “hit the ground running” by seeking out civic groups, recreational partners, and political mentors and friends. Their lives seem to be more fulfilling and meaningful as they make social and political impacts among their fellow “Red” citizens. John R.

I love Simon’s articles he writes. I read them
all the time. The book - I felt was boring and long winded. The point he makes is valid. I agree with his opinions. But I couldn’t make myself read the entire book. It was just too boring.
