I was happy to find this item on Amazon and note that the price is a good one. This item is a much better fit than other "bend to fit" levers. However, this is is the third American Standard replacement arm I have purchased. They have all failed (broken) in the same way: the twisting moment on the plastic arm bend next to where the arm attaches to to the tank is too great for the product and the arm within about a year breaks at that point.

The product fits great and works fine and installs in seconds, but should be stronger at the bend to avoid breakage over time.

Is it worth is to pay about $10 every year or so in order to avoid having to replace the entire commode? Yes, but barely. If you agree with me, then I advise doing what I do: buy one arm for now and one arm for when it will break next year.

I bought this to replace a handle that broke and was replaced with a generic one. For the most part it should be OK, but the flush arm is at a 45 degree angle and gets stuck under the filler arm control. I tried to bend it enough to work and broke it, so I reinstalled the generic one and it works again.

If the 45 degree arm is OK for you, then this should work fine. If not, don't buy it.

The trip lever on my American Standard toilet with tank #4072 broke, and this 'American Standard 047242-0020A Left Hand Plastic Trip Lever' fit perfectly. This lever is entirely plastic, and I have my doubts it will last very long, but that's OK. It only cost me $7 shipped, and it does the job. I bought the "polished chrome" color, and it looks like realistic. I'm satisfied. I'm not sure why they charge up to 3x more for certain colors though. Make sure you double check your cart when you checkout.

So happy to finally get the right part! I have an American Standard (I was told Cadet) but if you buy the Cadet replacement it doesn't have enough of an angle (4072 Tank). Finally got sick of bringing in the broken trip lever to Home Depot and/or my local plumbing supply store and never having it in stock...so they order it and you get this poorly made substitute which goes and breaks after a couple years. The thing I love about this (other than the nice curved styling) is that it is designed not to stick! The ones that I had been getting at the plumbing supply store if you tighten the handle screw the handle would stick holding the flap valve ON. This was disaster if the toilet happened to be plugged as it overflows...which it did a couple times for kids visiting the house...imagine how embarassing THAT is! The delivery of this was fantastic and very fast and though the product is cheap plastic, it has nice styling and it's designed not to stick which is the best feature by far!

First of all....this is a lesson in always buy front or side flushing toilets. Not this "kind of on the side, kind of on the front, kind of on an angle" toilet that American Standard made. We ordered this by the part number 047242-0200A and got this flimsy piece of plastic. Now, I would be somewhat ok with this if it worked but the handle is loose against the outside of the toilet. It will kind of flush but you have to hold it down and watch it to make sure it flushed.
I would never buy an American Standard toilet as their quality of replacement parts is so awful.

So, I put it on and am glad we don't have a hole in our tank and no way to flush it (we actually rigged something up until it this part came but it looked pretty bad) but very upset that this is about the only handle/flush lever that will work.

Very dissatisfied customer and would like to recommend that you not buy but if you have American Standard tank 4072, you don't really have much of a choice.

I have a couple of the Cadet 2 two piece toilets, circa 2000. The plastic handles do fatigue and break. The last time one broke, I went through my parts box and dug out a handle I had from a Briggs Vacuity toilet. I installed the Briggs handle, and with a slight bend (brass rod) it worked perfectly. Sometimes you need to improvise. This handle is actually an improvement. You may want to buy a Briggs Vacuity handle. Just my two cents.

This is the right trip lever for 4072 American Standard toilet. Mine is circa 1993, it hasn't worked this good in years... universal replacements never worked right!

Went right into 4072 American Standard tank. Perfect fit and took less than 30 seconds to install. No problems. We are back in business. Now as other reviewers have pointed out, this lever is all plastic and flimsy. However, I thought I would point out that this handle is exactly like the cheap flimsy levers that came with the toilet tanks in the house. All 4 toilet tanks are 4072 American Standard. 3 were installed in 1995 when we bought the house and the 4th was installed in 1998 when I finished the basement. This is the first handle out of the 4 that has broken. Lasting over 20 years is not a bad track record for these cheap flimsy handles . . . just sayin'

Another note - at first I went down to HD and bought a nice more durable "universal" lever off the rack. It took a long time (several minutes) to adjust correctly and then would get stuck with the flapper up every 3rd flush or so. That's when I did my homework and ordered this one and I am glad I did. When another of the 20 year old handles goes out I know where to get one. :)
