I was devastated after learning from lowes that they don't carry parts on toilets that they sold a couple of years ago. Checking on American Standard I received a pricing that was almost 1/3 of the cost of the entire toilet.
Amazon comes to rescue! This part arrived and worked right away. The slow leaking problem stopped.

I purchased this part even though the part was covered by American Standard warrenty. AS customer service is friendly but any part you need is back ordered. One item was received after 3 weeks, this item was back ordered 6 weeks. They will not tell you the items are not in stock unless you ask.

If you tell AS customer service you use Clorox toilet bowl cleaner tablets they will tell you that you have voided the toilet warrenty. Apparently it causes the AS rubber parts to turn into sponge like material. I find this interesting because the repaired toilet is less than 4 years old, a UPC toilet that is over 20 years old shows no harm using the same tablets.

I found it interesting that I receive the Amazon ordered part (in a American Standard box) within one week, I guess AS orders from Amazon.

Part installs easily. Check vendor prices they vary greatly.

I don't understand the design of the gasket surface on the flapper itself. There are ridges that run from the outside edge of the flapper all the way across. This is the sealing surface of the of the gasket and allows water to leak between the gasket and the mating surface that it seals against. This leads to a constantly leaking gasket and a tank that is constantly refilling. I kinda-sorta fixed the problem by placing a bead of silicone on the inside edge of the gasket without removing it from the flapper. That helped, but did not stop the leaking. The next thing I did was smear a layer of Vaseline on the face of the gasket. I don't know is this softened the gasket or helped seal it, but has helped with the leakage. So...why don't I just change brands and buy a different one? No one makes one big enough. If you purchase one of these commodes, you are stuck. And, obviously, if you are reading this, you already have one. The commode, itself, works great. No complaints there. Hope that I helped.

This is the factory replacement for the flush valve for American Standard Cadet 3 1.6 gallon toilets. Mine lasted about ten years, and the rubber gasket started to deteriorate, as did the tank-to-bowl washers. This was easy to install. Just follow directions, and if you're going to this trouble, get the tank-to bowl kit with new washers and a tank-to-bowl gasket. One trick I learned over the years with this toilet is that 1.6 gallons does not always give consistent flushes. About 1 out of 3 flushes requires reflushing, even with the water level at the max for the filler tube.

My solution: Easy pizzy. Just get a PVC 3/4" coupling, fit it over the top of the filler tube, adjust your float valve about .75" higher, and add about 1 to 1.5 quarts more water to your tank. It works like a charm. Powerful flushes without any problems. Sure, it uses a bit more water, but it probably saves in the long run by eliminating reflushing.

Who doesn't love a good toilet flapper? When we reno'd several years back.. we bought 3 of the same toilet.. and funny thing... all 3 of them started ghost-flushing around the same time... i know this is due to us using chlorinated toilet pucks...this caused the original rubber gasket to swell into something black and foul... it literally was breaking apart like a swollen black greasy sponge.. anyways... rather than just replace the flappers, the cost of these justified replacing the whole thing... greasy gasket and all.. Now it does take time to replace one..draining, removing the tank, loosening that huge plastic nut... I don't own a wrench that large.. so used a flat screwdriver and a hammer to tap it loose...works!
once all back together it looks like the original, just cleaner..and silent flushes.. have had them installed for over a month so far.. no issues whatsoever.

I bought this just for the flapper. I couldn't find an OEM version, I tried the aftermarket version on this toilet, none worked well. This one (the original) works best, don't bother with the Lowes/Home Depot universal flappers, just get this entire assembly, remove the flapper, and plant the remainder in your garden (or throw it away...up to you).

You can feel the cheap construction on this thing. Also, the rubber disintegrates in contact with water... not that it would be a problem since I didn't expect this rubber to be in constant contact with water or something of the sort... right? When I replaced this part, turns out the screws holding the tank to the bowl also had gotten bad and the whole thing was leaking. I just pulled the toilet out and tossed it in the garbage.

My cadet toilet was leaking a bit, I noticed that my flapper gasket was worn and swallen. The part number was on a tag on the hnderside of the tank lid. Went on Amazon and searched the part number and found the option to buy just the flapper or the entire assembly. I bought the whole piece and just installed the flapper, kept the tube in stock for future repair!
