About the Author

J.R. Rain is an ex–private investigator who now writes full-time in the Pacific Northwest. Chronically creative from an early age, he first fell in love with writing while making his very own Choose Your Own Adventure books as a child, and has since written thirty-three novels and five short-story collections, as well as screenplays for Paramount Pictures. Rain was born in Southern California and has lived up and down the West Coast. He currently resides just outside of Seattle, living in a small house on a small island with his small dog, Sadie, who has more energy than Robin Williams.

It wasn't a short book but it was so good I couldn't put it down and now I have to wait for the next one. It seems like I waited forever for this book to come out, but i read it in one sitting. I loved the book though and cant wait to read the next one and find out what happens with Sam and Fang.

I love the Samantha Moon series. I'm one of those people who have bought into the terrific cliffhanger endings the author as created and I want very badly to read more of the spin-off series he seems to be creating with the addition of each new character. I do agree that Fang is creepy -- I want Samantha to realize this too and I hope she will in time as one of J.R. Rain's upcoming plots. So why did I only give this book 2 stars? I was desperately reading to get to the end of the book to find out what happens and the author leaves us Kindle readers hanging at 88% of the book's completion. Wonder what the other 12% of the book is? It's the free samples of nearly ALL HIS OTHER KINDLE BOOKS! This was annoying in the second book and equally annoying now in the 3rd one. I understand not everyone reads a book or watches a movie like I might, but I'm not arrogant enough to think I'm the only person who enjoys a mystery, gauging the pages left, the minutes left, the percent of file left, to continually readjust my thoughts on who did what and try to figure out what will happen next. That's a lot of the pleasure in reading this genre. If the book winds down at 85% it's like someone screaming "April's Fool!"

The publisher, author, Amazon, whoever that decided filling the end of the book up with all this repeated material is doing a disservice to the Samantha Moon series. At $3.99 for the books, I still feel like I had a good read, but it really is annoying to know that the end of the book I'm reading is "bottom" heavy with marketing material. Amazon's search technology makes it easy to find the author's other works. I don't need the first chapter of every single one thrown into the end of all his books that I'm buying.

To the powers-that-be, please stop doing this.

I like Samantha Moon, I really do. I think she is well written and I will continue to buy her series ( as well as Knighthorse, who I really love.)
BUT! At the end of this book I could practically hear the music swelling, and the cue "Please stay tuned for the next installment of Samantha Moon!" Love a good backstory and tend to read series from beginning to most recent installment but this was a
little too much. A good stand alone story will often bring more readers in, because they like a character and not everyone starts at the beginning!
Now. That said. This is a very creative author who is using Kindle and various eReaders to their very best. Very strong Urban Fantasy and compelling characters, who I care about. LOVED the crossover with some of my other fave characters ( oh YES! Elvis is in the building!) Mr Rain has obvious chops and I'm looking forward to whatever he does next.

I read this book today in about 3 hours! I admit, I am hooked on this series and Mr. Rain, I do NOT think I can wait til December for the next book!!! Samantha Moon is just one of those characters that you have to love; you just can't help yourself. I wasn't crazy about the ending, though. You could have at least told us what her decision was!!! However, I know that is how you keep us all coming back for more. And trust me, I will!

The third book in this great series is the best yet. I don't know how he does it, but J.R. keeps raising the bar. Don't want to give anything away, but all of you J.R. Rain fans are in for a special treat. The only down side to this book is it ends much too soon and now we will have to wait (impatiently) for the next installment.

American Vampire, Book 3 in the Samantha Moon Series, takes book takes off were the prior book ended, with Sam learning about Fang, her friend from the Vampire Chat room.

I personally did not like the character Fang, he is a wanted man, and I will not go too much into his character, letting you draw our own conclusions about Fang.

Sam gets involved in a hold your breath mystery when a little girl contacts Sam via her cell phone. Sam finds out from this child that her mother is dead, and there is a man who has her obscured and is doing atrocious things to her.

Sam goes to the police department and works feverishly to locate this lost little girl. During her investigation Sam comes across some new PI friends who want to help her.

As if this isn't enough for you, another story unfolds with Sam's personal life as it begins to fall apart when her son becomes gravely ill. He is dying, and Sam knows there may be only one way to save him, and that is by turning him into a Vampire. She struggles with what is the right decision. A mysterious medallion is uncovered which can reverse the vampirism.

Sam turns her son, and has only four days to uncover the secret to the medallion and reverse what she has done to her son, four days before the blood lust takes him over and he is fully turned.

The suspense continues as Sam discovers there is only one Vampire that can help her with the medallion, and she doesn't know how to find him, he has to find her. During all of this another Vampire enters the picture as he seeks the medallion; he kidnaps a boy from the hospital mistaking him for Sam's son, using him as hostage for the medallion.

Sam must decide if she is going to keep the medallion and save her son, and sacrifice an innocent boy.
