Ya sure, you could just push the probe into the fins but i was looking for something that looked clean and gave a more accurate temp reading. With the probe in the fins the fan will turn off faster because it is exposed to the cool rushing air of the environment when you drive.
Also, i did not receive a mounting bracket with this. I used a small piece of flex tape and zip ties to mount it. So much for that clean look.
Although this has good reviews on here, i started talking to my car friends and none of them had anything good to say about adjustable temp switches. They say that either it never turned the fan on, or it didnt turn the fan on until it was too hot. Just my 2c. Im gonna go with a normal temp switch and a relay now because thats obviously the best way.
Take this review with a grain of salt because I did not actually use the switch, after the intial install was so frustrating.
I used a Thermal Heat gun By Fluke https://www.amazon.com/Fluke-Infrared-Thermometer-Degree-Range/dp/B01CFXIRTA/ref=sr_1_11?crid=NO5GX8Y69TDT&dchild=1&keywords=fluke%2Bheat%2Btemperature%2Bgun&qid=1596902324&sprefix=fluke%2Bhaet%2Caps%2C183&sr=8-11&th=1 to set the Mechanical switch at the proper temperature. It now, no longer overheats running AC and idling in 130-degree heat on the pavement.
The only con I see is that it is hard to find a good way to mount it in my car.
