The book focused mostly on the people trying to stop the conspiracy. There is a good backstory and a lot of family drama. There are also faithful friends who stand by each other in their fight.
As I said, the story is good--and very disturbing--but the book is nearly ruined by a lack of editing. The story switches tenses randomly; there are extra words or missing words; punctuation/grammar is not used or used incorrectly; and there is a lack of flow between sentences, chapters, and the entire book. Much better transitions are needed between scenes and even within conversations. All of these things really distract from the story.
The book needs a sequel, so I hope the author finds a good editor before it comes out. The story is good, but its execution is not.
I would still recommend the book. It goes by very quickly and can be enjoyed if you know what you are in for and don't mind the structural problems.
I loved the concept of the plot and can actually envision something like this happening somewhere in this messed up world. We are already being dumbed down by being obsessed with social media, our noses are constantly in our computers, and eyes always on our phones. Yes, I can see mind control, maybe not to the extent in this book, but we are already being
told where to shop, what to buy, etc.
What I liked about the book was the flow of the action and the realistic actions of the characters. It was a very fast paced book that kept me reading while on the edge of my recliner. What I didn't like was all the alcohol and tobacco consumed by the main characters. What I appreciated was the author allowing fear and anger to be expressed without resorting to f-bombs and other foul language. Thank you J.G. Fletcher. I am looking forward to book #2.
I don't want to say too much to ruin the book, suffice to say it far outshines any other take on the genre.
My favorite book of 2017 so far, and just a pure joy to read (and that's coming from a guy who reads 1-2 novels a week).
Do yourself a favor. READ THIS BOOK!
Note the author writes in the current tense which reads strangely to me. Also I nearly caught cancer from all the times the characters lot up cigarettes.
