My father, over 10 years ago, purchased this book for his radio program, especially when it came to demonstrating the that the United States was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. My father used it so much that I remember pages falling out of the binding because of all the book marks as well as notes and just constantly reading.
I purchased this book myself because I would get into debates with people of ignorance (yes ignorance) who claim that the Founding Fathers were "atheists" or "agnostics" or "deists." Their favorite "deists" would always be Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin but when I read quotes such as this:
"The Christian Religion, when divested of the rags in which they [the clergy] have enveloped it, and brought to the original purity and simplicity of its benevolent institutor, is a religion of all other most friendly to liberty, science, and the freest expansion of the human mind."
--Thomas Jefferson March 23, 1801 (in a letter to Moses Robinson) pg. 324
Deist? Really? If that's case then Thomas Jefferson has just labeled himself a fool. Deist? Please!
Or this:
"Here is my Creed. I believe in one God, the Creator of the Universe. That He governs it by His Providence. That He ought to be worshipped.
That the most acceptable service we render to Him is in doing to His other Children. That the soul of Man is immortal, and will be treated with Justice in another Life respecting its conduct in this. These I take to be the fundamental points in all sound of Religion, and I regard them as you do in whatever Sect I meet with them.
As to Jesus of Nazareth, my Opinion of whom you particularly desire, I think the System of Morals and his Religion, as he left them to us, is the best the World ever saw, or is likely to see"

According to the revisionist Benjamin Franklin never had faith in Christ. Atheist? Agnostic? Deist? Apparently not! If at most I would say he was non-denominational.
These are just samples from the America's God and Country. Not only are these quotes, but Federer documents 127 pages of footnotes to every quote. Makes it very hard to disprove or rewrite the history of the United States as well as our Founding Fathers. But this book has more than the Founding Fathers it even has Charles Darwin's bedside confessional of his disavowing the theory of evolution since he was unable to prove anything.
Now please note this book was published in 2000 so it has quotes all the way up to 2000, however is does not discredit the amazing work Mr. Federer has done to bring a reference to history.
