We could not be more pleased with our purchases. The mattress was shipped promptly. However - and I don't know if this was the fault of Amerisleep or FedEx - when I was tracking the shipment - it just said that the order was received and was not yet shipped. A few days after I ordered them, the mattress and pillows were waiting on my front porch. I got a shipment message to expect delivery in an other 5 days. My son (who was thankfully visiting) helped me lift the 130 pound package up the stairs. We put down a plywood base (that Lowes cut to size for us at no extra charge) per the warranty requirements and began opening up the package. It all went much smoother than I anticipated. It unrolled itself - it was about 90% of full size in about 5 minutes and completely filled out in about an hour. Two things I want to say at this point that goes against some other reviews I had read. First, there were no smelly fumes at all. Second, the mattress was the same size as our previous king size. It fits in our frame perfectly. I would rate this mattress as a medium firm - leaning to the firm side - about a 7.5 on a scale of 10. It was somewhat softer than the Tempurpedic I mentioned above. I have not had the backaches in the morning I had with the old mattress. The bed sleeps heat neutral - something I was worried about with memory foam. The edge is firm - I don't feel I'm going to roll off and I can sit on the edge. The foam has a quicker recovery rate than Tempurpedic - so you don't sink in - you can roll over fairly easy. I find that I can sleep easily on both my side and back. I would recommend getting the pillows also. They are heavy, but give excellent support without being too hard, maintain their shape and don't get hot. My only complaint is that the king size pillows are really just queen size.
I must say that we are very relieved. We were very nervous about spending over $1000 for products sight unseen, but we are very satisfied.
That being said, I really wanted to like this bed. I saw all the "favorable reviews" (which I now question, given my own experience), and thought that with my recent back surgery, this was something that would help both my husband and I get a good night's rest. We are both back and side sleepers.
Pros: Firm (at first), Aesthetic look, 100 day return policy
Cons: Develops cavity very quickly, poor handling of pressure points, askew shape that doesn't fit on frame nicely
I wake up with shoulder and neck pain every morning, which I didn't have with my old bed. It creates uncomfortable pressure points and my back seems worse than ever after sleeping on this bed. My husband is "just okay" with it, but he has fewer back issues than I do. Also, the bed is not square. It is off and sits very funny on the square frame (same frame as our old bed, which was aligned with it). The bed has also developed a cavity where I sleep, so it's very difficult to roll over. I have had this bed only a few months. Unfortunately, with much going on, I missed the 100 day return and I'm stuck with it. If this bed ever improves for me, I'll update my review here.
UPDATE, bed has not held up, at first it was firm but now it is sagging where I sleep and the memory foam either doesn't reform or it is the base material, either way it hasn't held up and it hasn't even been a year, very disappointed, I know someone said to return the bed it was $300, too bad we bought 2 beds, still may try to return.
