Pete Heller and his wife Lisa are successful in their careers but have failed in love and marriage. Thomas Nye, author of the beloved Amish Horses Series, writes Christian romance novels with a historical flare and a touch of humor.

During grade school, Thomas developed an interest in history by reading anything he could find about horses and early American history. As a teenager, he moved to an area with a large Amish population, and it was as if he had fallen into his favorite book. His love of farm life, history, and horses all came together in real-life experiences with his Amish friends, who also happen to share his Christian faith. Thomas purchased draft horses from Amish farmers in his neighborhood and set out to learn the art of working with horses in harness. After years of buying, selling, and trading workhorses with Amish farmers in his community, Thomas had many wonderful memories of those experiences. The Amish Horses Book Series is a set of novels based on those adventures. Under the Heavens (Book I) was published in December 2013. He followed with Catbird Singing (Book II) 2015, English River (Book III) 2016; his other novels include Samson and Amish Delilah 2019, and Remain True: Amana 2023.

Thomas also has two published novellas, Whispering to Horses 2015 and Amish Park 2017. He has contributed to numerous anthology books as well. His blog, amishhorses.blogspot.com has attracted worldwide attention as a source of information about Amish life and also serves as his website to keep readers informed about his current works. The blog highlights draft horses and a glimpse of Thomas' experiences on the edge of an Amish community.

Thomas and his wife, Shari, live in Eastern Iowa on an acreage her grandparents purchased in 1918. They have 5 grown children and 9 grandchildren.

A New Perspective on Life in Amish Park

A quick and fun read where young Natalie Heller is convinced a family vacation at an Amish Park is what her family needed before her parents divorced. This endearing novella is a quick read with true to life characters and issues of today. The Amish family was more than gracious to the Heller family despite Pete and Lies Heller believing they were being used with having to work along side the Amish family. The unexpected events that arose at times and the wisdom of Jonas Yoder brought moments of laughter then tears. Amish Park is filled with a beautiful message of how to overcome being self centered and turning to God and His love. Readers of Amish genre will appreciate Thomas Nye’s storytelling and wisdom of the Amish bishop in Amish Park.

A Must Read!

Oh my stars, this book. I am a huge Thomas Nye fan, so I knew that I would love this book from the start. However, what I didn't expect was the emotional reaction I would have to the story.

Pete and Lisa have decided to end their marriage. Their youngest daughter, Natalie, plans a trip for the whole family to a location called "Amish Park." Her hope is that her family will find some healing during their Amish adventure. Pete, Lisa and their eldest daughter Carrie begrudgingly decide to humor Natalie and go on one last week-long family vacation. The direction their adventure takes them, however, just may surprise everyone involved.

Being a novella, I was able to finish this book in one day. But truth be told, if this had been a full novel, I would have stayed up into the wee morning hours to finish it. It was just so good! The characters are all well-developed, personable, relatable and memorable. (I absolutely love Jonas.) Thomas Nye is always so amazing at describing scenes, circumstances and emotions, planting his readers right into the middle of the story. But, being a born horse-lover, the stars of the story for me were Manny and Lady. I absolutely fell in love with these gentle giants, and loved the role they played in Pete's story. I pretty much cried my way through the last third of the story.

'Amish Park' is filled with God's hope, God's forgiveness, God's grace and God's providence. It is a heart-warming, cozy story that had me thanking Jesus for His care of each one of us. (I also then re-read my current issue of "Horse Illustrated," because Manny and Lady. That is all.) A highly recommended read!

One more time...for the girls

4 stars only because it was too short, lol. Believe this is my first book by him & trust me it won't be my last! A different type of Amish story; but so worth every word! And then too quickly the last page...Meet a couple at the end of their marriage. Can a letter from their youngest daughter find a miracle they so need? One last family vacation to some place called 'Amish Park'. Two world's meet when the Heller's pull into the Yoder's driveway...will this work out? Can clothes really change a person? WAIT! I don't want to give too much away...your turn to start reading...enjoy! This was an ARC from Thomas Nye...thanks!!

Interesting but too short! The concept of the book is good but a longer version would have helped greatly with the character development. If you are looking for a fast, easy read then this may be the book for you. Thomas Nye is definitely an author worth checking out.

Can a family be saved?

A couple on the cusp of divorce. A young daughter wanting her family to go on vacation to a place she had heard about...Amish Park. She wrote and and set it up. Her parents agree, knowing that this will be the last vacation they have together as a family.

From the time they arrive and slip into an amish way of life with an amish family, the story develops and takes you along. My heart was invested in this family and in the children that would soon be from a broken home. I often thought that the father "needed to grow up", but then all of them had things to learn. This interesting book will leave you wanting more...a sign of an excellent read.

I was excited to read about a tourist destination called Amish Park… it sounded like something I would love to visit, although honestly, I’d rather visit the real thing.

This is a quick read, but the story has everything it needs to be a great story!

The Heller family is in trouble, but they’re exactly where they need to be to get help. They adapt quickly to the Amish lifestyle and find themselves working harder than they expected to keep up with the resident family. Will they make it till the end–or will they give up? You just may be in for a surprise or two…

Read the story and find out for yourself. By the time you finish it, you’ll be wanting to plan a vacation with an Amish family, too!

A family pulled apart in the struggles of modern living find what is missing in an unexpected setting. A sweet lesson in the strength of humility, is the catalyst for healing past hurts.
The characters are marred and believable.
My only criticism is is a backhanded compliment in that I would have liked more time; a longer glimpse for the characters to develop greater depth. This being my first experience of Thomas Nye's work I look forward to comparing his other books. A comfy balance of Christianity at its best resolving contemporary stresses in family life. A lesson for all. Really enjoyable! Thank you Thomas Nye!
